I've been thinking about this, and it occurs to me that posting random thought is roughly the whole point of this particular form of LJ, isn't it?
Anyway, I've never particularly liked the "bad boy" characters. They seem to require so much attention and effort, and care. The appeal, as I understand it, as all about fixing up the tortured soul who would then be your one true love, and would also allow you to flaunt convention a little bit, beacuse he is a rebel and all, and so are you, for being with him.
Where it falls apart for me though, is that the Bad Boy, is usually a fairly Nice Guy. At least, you believe he is, once that angsty past has been pried out and smoothed over and all. And, um, this is restricting.
Thats why I find the Villains kind of attractive, to be honest. The Villain is most empatically not a Nice Guy under all those layers of angst and rebellion. (He could be bad boy villain, of course. I'm making vast horrible generalizations.) He does not need to be fixed, and he will not be nice just to you becuase you are his one true love. He'll be just as nasty to you as he is to everyone else.
Which is very liberating, since it means you can be nasty right back, no guilt. While the whole point of the BB is to be nice to him, sorta.
So, yeah, Voldemort is kinda hot. (If he could ditch the snakey looks that is), and Barty Courch Jr. And Lupin, (Due to that nice dark side. I didn't like Lupin until that was pointed out). Sirius and Tom Riddle - not so much. Too much work.
Still can't figure out why I don't like Snape though. Hm.
