Peterborough Cathedral photos.

On the way to a wedding near Peterborough garienos and I stopped off to have a quick look at the cathedral, hunt Green Men, and take photos.

Here is a stone Bishop doing good work being a perch for pigeons:






But the real Bishop of Peterborough has a prettier costume to wear:




A view up the tower from the crossing:




The roof of the chancel is as colourful:




The architecture is Norman, although as it is slightly later than other cathedrals (it was built after Durham) it is a lot more ornate:




This bit is later still. My Ladybird Book 'The Story of our Churches and Cathedrals' tells me this is Fan Vaulting and from the Perpendicular period of architecture.

And here is one of at least two green men hiding in the porch roof. I had to use my flash on him. I wish they didn't paint them SO thickly with gold paint!
