I took one of our New Scientists home to read on the bus last night and found an note about
new research findings [that is a very long winded article
this one is much shorter] in the study of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Apparently when we develop the problem something triggers our cells to begin producting Proteases. These affect the neurones in smooth muscle and cause a sensitivity and higher response to pain. I am not too happy they have been injecting it into rats to find this out though. Surely they could have worked that out without doing that ...
garienos when told about all this said that it was probably linked to my predisposition to be allergic and sensitised a lot of things. He is probably as right as the doctor who told me that my mother and sister [they have the excema] have the problem OUTSIDE while Dad and I [IBS and asthma] have it inside.
As I also said to my father last night we could have told the researchers long time ago that something it was something setting off the reaction if they had asked. I have many times wished there was something that could 'turn it off' when it gets started. Usually that is when I reach for the paracetamol and codeine as it sort of does that - the painkiller effect kills the pain and the codeine relaxes the smooth muscle. It was a nurse who put me onto that a while back. Works like a charm and a lot more efficiently that certain types of anti-trots medication. Good job I am over here and not over the pond or I would be having to get it on prescription.
At least now science has found out what it is they might be able come up with something to block the effect or something like that.I shall have to wait and see - my doctor claims I don't have it, but then he is too lazy to read the notes about all the poking and prodding they did to me when I was in my early twenties. I also need to read-up on fibre intollerance and that may be something I have too.
