So basically, lesbians. Or not really. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It just seems so wildly... out of character. They've already got Willow, so all this seems a bit unnecessary to me. Maybe it wouldn't ring as badly if they had some gay male encounters going on as well. I dunno, I haven't read any of the comic since the 4th or 5th issue (they were good, I just can't afford them), so perhaps this developed as naturally as Joss claims. He has a habit of saying things developed naturally or needed to happen in his stories when they really, really didn't though. We'll see I guess.
