My office windows are equipped with roller blinds. There's a control panel in the office that's used to control these blinds, and a couple of other things. There's also an automatic weather override, which makes sure that windows are not left open if it rains too much and such things. It also automatically closes the roller blinds when it gets dark in late afternoon/evening. And since this is the override I cannot wind the blinds back up again.
I really cannot see any conceivable reason for this. Preventing burglars from looking in? Nope, my office is on the 1st floor, which, owing to the peculiar architechture of the CMS is some five, six meters or so above ground. Preventing the people who have offices in the building opposite from looking straight into my office? Well, see, if this bothered me (it doesn't, and besides, the view isn't much obscured by daylight during the rest of the day, when I do have control over the blinds) I could lower the blinds myself by pressing a button, and the same goes for the poeple opposite. If they are bothered by the possiblitiy of me seeing them sitting at their desks, they can bloody well close their own blinds. I still want to be able to look out my windows and see the darkening night sky, thank you very much. That goes doubly when I have writing to do, which I like to do in the evenings and therefore stay late at work.
