The meme that's been going around lately:
30 Questions about 1 person.
1) Single, Married, Divorced, Remarried, Widowed?
Marriage is either a legal definition, a religious right, or a social convention. I have no religious community, and think the laws regarding marriage are indefensible. Because everyone who mets us seems to recognize my wife and I as a couple I have chosen to identify as a married person, although that makes our girlfriend feel weird.
2) Kids?
We have had one awesome son for a decade. I would love to have more when I can convince some poor woman to go through that process again.
3) Home: rent or own?
We currently rent. Our last home was a disastrous attempt to resurrect an abused Montrose townhouse.
4-a) Do you have a lawn?
Yes, in that we rent a lawn.
4-b) If so, have you ever told those damn kids to get off it?
Those damned kids also rent the same lawn. I just grumble about kids today while checking my mailbox.
5) Job Title:
Artist. I have always written 'artist' on my taxes. My last few jobs have identified me as: animator, designer, programmer, IT manager, shift leader.
6) Standard transportation to and from your place of employment (make and model please if it's yours):
2006 Honda Fit, bright orange. Every drive-through knows my car, and what I will order when I pull up.
7-a) Morning wakeup beverage:
Warm Dr. Pepper. (I know, I know.)
7-b) If applicable to above, how do you take it?
Straight from the can, while checking my email.
7-c) Do you drink it all day, or just a morning thing?
As the day continues I'll switch to colder Dr. Peppers.
8-a) What "wacky" things have you adorned your workspace with to show your coworkers that you're not just a dull faceless drone?
When I worked in an office I put my own analog clock up over my desk, and tended to keep a few amusing office trinkets.
8-b) Do you doodle in meetings? If so, what do you usually wind up drawing?
I am paid to doodle during meetings. I generally doodle ideas for games. I also do caricatures of clients, goofy robots, and random abstract patterns.
9) Last time you were unemployed, and for how long?
Until last year, I had never been unemployed for more than a month. I have currently been unemployed for 15 months, although I've had a couple of months' worth of contract work to keep myself afloat.
10-a) Did you vote in the last presidential election?
No, I had to use an electronic voting machine.
10-b) Do you plan on voting in the next one?
It would be nice.
11) In a social setting are you more likely to drink beer, wine, or mixed drinks?
No. Mixed drinks made with clear alcohols are tasty and fun, but I'm mildly allergic to wine, and beer tastes terrible to me.
12-a) What kinds of beer do you prefer? (brand or general type)
I have tasted a couple micro-brews that were awesome.
12-b) What kinds of wine do you prefer?
If I'm going to drink rotten grapes I'll wait for a good champagne.
12-c) What kinds of mixed drinks do you prefer?
Rum&Coke, Long Island Ice Tea, or anything else with a bit of sweetness.
13) Do you play video games?
Make and play, yes.
14-a) Do you have any of your old toys from your childhood?
My son has inherited all of my transformers, Star Wars figures, Legos, etc. I kept everything in my parents' attic.
14-b) Do you still play with them? (or maybe use them for question 8)
Sometimes. My own son barely plays with them these days.
15) How often do you visit your parents?
During the school year my son sees them every weekday. During the Summer we see them once a week or so.
16-a) Are you a member of any clubs or groups for purely social purposes?
I go to a weekly Movie Night, and on weekends I attend the brunch of the Knights of Bag-El, .
16-b) For networking purposes?
I joined LiveJournal, FaceBook, and LinkedIn.
17-a) Are you active in any fandoms online?
No. I actively plot to eliminate them.
17-b) In real life?
I'm not even sure how that would work. I certainly enjoy a number of movies, shows, books, games, etc. I certainly consider myself a fan of various things, and often gather with others to talk about things we like. What I don't do is attend cons, dress up as characters (outside of Halloween), or write stories in other authors' worlds.
18-a) Do you have a Crackberry or other similiar extended mobile telephony device?
My phone is retie simple, but I DO have an iPod Touch. It is certainly similar to an iPhone.
18-b) What features of your phone/mobile device do you actually use?
I receive calls. I check voice mail. I occasionally receive txts. I tend not to make calls or txts, and I find most other mobile features to be shait.
18-c) What features are there, but baffle you as to their purpose or usefulness?
Honestly I find most features of modern phones baffling and stupid. I just want to be able to call the cops when my car on on fire.
19) How many computers do you have in your home?
7-8. I work with two powerful tower computers, and I share a laptop with my wife. We also have a museum of antique computers.
20) Do you consider the environmental impact of your actions before making a decision?
Very much so. I still do many things with significant negative impact, and I consider this.
21-a) Realistically, which new car would you buy if you had the means right now?
Smart car, or possibly an all-electric. I LOVE tiny cars, and hate internal combustion.
22-b) Fantastically, which car from this or any era would you magically *poof* into existence in your driveway?
Delorean (with Mr. Fusion and hover options installed), Decker's Spinner (From "Blade Runner"), or any other flying car. It's 2010; where the HELL is my FLYING CAR?!!!
23) Do you listen to NPR, AM talk radio, or podcasts?
Yes, no, and yes - respectively.
24) Do you watch the Daily Show / Colbert Report?
Yes and yes, respectively.
25) Do you consciously eat healthy?
I unconsciously eat healthy. In my waking hours I eat junk food and desserts.
26) Do you exercise? Do you go outside or to a gym?
Until recent medical issues prevented it I was running almost 2 miles a day. I hate the idea of gyms, and I live really close to a nice park.
27-a) Are you religious, or otherwise spiritually inclined?
I am not religious, but consider my self a spiritual person. (I also enjoy making fun of anyone lame enough to say that out loud.)
27-b) Is your current faith different from the one you were raised with?
I was raised by a Logic Professor who eschewed belief, and a Child Development Expert who consulted I Ching and Astrology to make decisions. It's kind of hard to define anything as distinct from such a hodgepodge.
28) Do you collect anything?
Gadgets, movies, socks without matches.
29) Think back 10 years, are you where you thought you'd be now?
Not at all. 10 years ago I figured I would live on the West coast. I figured I would be working in the Hollywood system, and I figured I would be making my own short films - possibly making my own educational television.
30) If you could go back 10 years and tell your old self something, what would it be?
Don't buy the house. Finish the novel. Ignore the next three will-o-the-wisps; they are not what you're looking for.
