Solitary moon

Hello beautiful flist. Yes, it is I. I am still alive! I thought I'd break radio silence for once. I've been a bit all over the place recently. I've been working loads, reading loads, studying loads. I would have probably updated this thing sooner if I'd have the guts to open up Livejournal on my computer at work. Unfortunately a colleague sits kind of behind me and can sometimes see my screen, and I have a terrible fear that me logging into Livejournal will just inadvertently descend into me reading slash fic. Because that's how these things go. I've also been falling into unusual fandoms that I never even considered before. It seems the fandoms that you don't pay much attention to at first (or indeed didn't even know exist) are the ones that grab hold of your heart and don't let go.

So. I've been off work since last Wednesday due to Easter and bank holidays and the like. It's been lovely even though a friend has managed to stitch me up on 3 separate occasions over the course of 2 days. Hmm. Last Wednesday I was lucky enough to go to the Frankenstein Q&A at the National Theatre. It was basically Danny Boyle, Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller sitting on stage for an hour answering questions about Frankenstein, and it was glorious. With the exception of a woman just in front of me shouting out while one of them was talking. Q&A etiquette! I can tell you right now that I actually facepalmed, but other than that it was great. The boys were very funny and seem to get along very well. I stuck around for a while afterwards and managed to meet Mark Gatiss, Benedict Cumberbatch and Danny Boyle. They are all dudes of the highest order. I was without a doubt most excited about meeting Mark Gatiss, he's been a bit of a hero for me ever since I read The Vesuvius Club about 6 years ago. He tried to tell me he wrote Frankenstein, and if he says so then I believe him ;) I was kind of hoping to see him at the Q&A because he tweeted he was going to see his little brother in 'Fronkensteen' that day...which is absolutely adorable. Benedict Cumberbatch is beautiful, and he had fake blood down the side of his face (I'm not sure he knew this). The model/actor (apparently) Lily Cole was also there, her head looks even more like the moon in person.

A week and a half before this I went to see Frankenstein twice over a weekend. JLM played the creature and BC played Victor on the Saturday, and on the Sunday they reversed roles. I won't bother going into details over it because if you've ever read a review of Frankenstein at the National Threatre chances are the reviewer said it was brilliant, and this is exactly what I too would say. Everything about it was perfection, the music (by Underworld, had to buy the CD), the acting, the cast, the set pieces. Everything. Benedict's Victor reminded me a lot of his Sherlock, complete with flowing black coat and loud comments on his superior intelligence ^_^ Also, the steampunk inspired train rocked my world, and I'm gutted they won't be released the live version on DVD. I want to see it again so much.

Obviously that's been the highlight of the past few months. Right now I'm saving for a trip to Venice with a friend in September and a trip to Devon in August with afortunatefew to the Band of Brothers Jumping for Heroes uh...jump.Fun!
