awaiting my muse

This weekend was a good mix between work and play. I managed to get a detailed outline for the first two chapters done before babysitting on Friday. I got home, and Cory and I cleaned up my apartment for the wine and cheese party. sarah_p came over a little early to help get the food ready, and we all had a great, laid back night. It was so nice to see all of the (Ex)Grad Newman kids in one place again. For the mostpart, I have managed to keep in touch with everyone individually, but it's rare for all of our schedules to align in one place at the same time, and it was really great that Cory could make it this time around. Grad students being social-- what a concept. :)

Saturday I got up early, ran a few errands, and graded a set of papers. Cory came over in the afternoon, and we went to see Wall-E at The Spectrum. We both thought it was the best film that Pixar has made in a while, and it deals with surprisingly socially and environmentally conscious issues. It's really interesting. I'd recommend it. Afterward we went to dinner at My Linh again. There's no doubt about it-- it's absolutely our new favorite restaurant in Albany. Mmm. I ordered Bun Tom Nuong (a cold shrimp and rice noodle dish), Cory had the Cary Ga (a curried chicken stew), and we both ordered the Che Dau for dessert again (a sweet rice pudding with black-eyed peas and warm coconut milk.) Yummy. Leftovers are double yummy!

Today I woke up early again and got my outline ready for the first two chapters of the second draft of my dissertation. After mass, I stopped by Hannaford and picked up some delicious peaches, then came back here to start writing again. After a long, enjoyable phone conversation with the perennially adorable kayarebee, I actually got to work. I got a moderate amount done on Chapter One, but overall my progress was a little lackluster. I really wish I could have gotten more done, but I know this process is a marathon. I have to pace myself. At least all of my lessons for summer school are prepped for the week, so hopefully I'll be able to tie this up between working afternoons after class and my extra day off on Thursday this week. Productivity, please. :)
