A while back, an article about image retargeting hit Slashdot (
see this Youtube video for details). Basically, it's a "smart resize" algorithm: it guesses which regions of the image are important, and it strategically adds/removes pixels in an attempt to preserve those regions.
And just a little while ago,
rsisr hit del.icio.us. Guess what it does to images.
Now, rsizr could be better - it could be a GIMP plugin, and it could give me more control - but it at least gave me a chance to play around with image retargeting. Anyway, it's pretty cool.
