How was your Christmas? I've been spending way too much time on Twitter and neglecting my LJ, haha. My dad still hasn't uploaded the pictures so I guess Venezuela will have to wait.
I was so happy this Christmas because it was the first time in five years that I got to spend it with my family.
The past few years it was just me and my mother, and my brother if he came to visit. When I was a kid, on Christmas eve we'd first go to visit my dad's side of the family. We'd exchange gifts and then go to visit my mom's side of the family, have a dinner, another gift exchange, and then we'd return home and go to bed.
Despite me being in Brazil this year, the tradition could not be repeated. We only went to my mom's side. Since the Quandt family has all scattered, Christmas with the Rosario family it was. It was lovely. I really felt so warm being with my family for this holiday again :) But I guess that's the sort of thing that's hard to explain to someone who doesn't feel it.
Anyway, as far as gifts go, I got a hat (very cute <3), a pink t-shirt, a box of chocolates, and Donkey Kong-themed Jenga that I'm supposed to share with my brother. I also got R$100 from my grandma (about $60) and $150 from my grandpa in supposedly early birthday money. My mom gave me a check to deposit to her account from which I'm supposed to withdraw $190.
Then on Christmas day we went and had lunch at aunt Sílvia's and I spent pretty much all afternoon passed out on her couch.
Well since then I've mostly been lazying around and following my dad on errands.

[00:41] quandtuniverse13: apparently when she moved back to Brazil a month ago, my brother asked her if I had found a boyfriend yet, and she said no.

[00:42] quandtuniverse13: well, I told my brother otherwise, and he complained to my mom that she lied to him, and she said you didn't count.
[00:42] Infinity11D: ...what, and I counted before?

[00:43] Infinity11D: I'm extremely amused.
[00:44] quandtuniverse13: and now my brother says it doesn't count either
[00:44] quandtuniverse13: meanwhile my dad laughed and asked how many heads of cattle your family was willing to offer
[00:45] Infinity11D: Well...if you don't mind robotic cattle...

[00:46] Infinity11D: Or actually, more likely virtual cattle in the form of a computer program
[00:46] Infinity11D: My dad works with computer networks, so he knows code
[00:46] quandtuniverse13: no, he said he hated all the farmville notices on his facebook lol
[00:47] Infinity11D: All right. Well, give me a few years and maybe I can genetically-engineer a new breed

OK but yeah you can tell from that conversation part of what's been bothering me lately, and that's how my family seems to dismiss this relationship so easily because it's mostly online! Come on, I've known this guy for five years, we went to the same high school, we've been good friends a long time, we've been together for seven months, but somehow it's not real, it doesn't count, because I moved to the opposite side of the country and we've only been on one physical date. (Which was totally awesome, by the way!)
How many of you there on my F-list are or have been in a long-distance relationship? How do you handle something like this? My brother especially pisses me off.

Good news: My mom got a new job! She's the project coordinator for Alphaville, meaning she's in charge of the three largest development projects in Brazil! She'll get paid superwell, university costs are no longer worrisome!
Bad news: She moves to São Paulo next week.
Bawwwww I hate SP but seriously I'm happy for her.
