I am now motivated to start blogging again.
(posted this to my Facebook today. I am outraged by the votes on Prop 8)

Unlike the superstitious majority in this state, I do not begrudge the right of gay couples to be recognized as married people and lovers. It does not diminish what marriage is to recognize that it can go beyond the biological constraints of gender and societal convention. Fear has retarded the rational consideration of this issue in California.
Our kids are not under threat from rabid gay couples bent on world domination. If anything, the threat comes from the other direction. I feel for the child who is told that God hates his/her gay parents. It used to be that to call a kid a bastard was an unforgivable insult. Even to acknowledge illegitimacy was to cast that person out. We got past that, somehow. Has marriage suffered because we don't ridicule bastards anymore? No.
During the Civil Rights Movement, the term "Separate but Equal" was not enough. The term "domestic partnership" is not enough either. We need to be able to publicly acknowledge gay couples as a net positive in our world. What stands in the way of this? The Church. Christians should remember that marriage was around long before their Bible. It is something that belongs to the human species and is a natural right. As such, we have the right to define what it is for ourselves, right? Our Constitution should back us up on this. Looks like we need to deliberate on the matter at the Supreme Court in the next few years.
