Okay, my garden-geek is coming out. Read on if you might happen to care.

The muscles in my lower back are hellaciously sore. It's my own fault though. One should learn not to go shoveling stuff around in the yard for hours at a time if they've been slacking off for many prior months.

Most of the shoveling was when I turned the compost heaps. I can't manage to get a heap to compost in a month like some people claim to be able to do - damn Martha Stewarts of the gardening world - but my lazy version of composting gives results at least once a year. I just stack anything compostable behind the garage, stir and turn it every once in a while, and reap the benefits once a year.

Anyway, I pulled the outside off the oldest stack and found a two-foot-high by three-foot-wide nice hill of nicely decomposed once-I-was-plants-but-now-I-am-dirt. =D It equated to two wheelbarrow loads of compost. My garden ate it up in one bite, licked its lips, and politely inquired if there was more. Sadly I had to say, 'No.'

Next year though. My current stacks are about three times as big as what I had last year. I expect next year to be compost heaven. XD

(Like I said, geeking out. Only a gardener can get this excited by making dirt. ;P)

I made French Toast for breakfast. Oddly enough, it's the first time I've ever made it. Damn it was easy! Definitely goes on my list of things to cook frequently and with gusto. =D

Ah well, off I go to the garden again. I was just taking a break after finishing a rock retaining wall; time to start on another one (or two or three or ... goddamn sloping ground bloody hills WTF). I'm trying to decide what manner of plant or ground cover might have a chance of keeping down the weeds in this one particular spot. Considering trying Irish Moss. Oh, and I should plant nasturtium seeds while I'm thinking of it; those did quite well last summer.
