Prompt: Needle(s) - Riku Replica - Kingdom Hearts - suggested by
obabscribbler .
“Don’t worry… It will all be over soon.”
Anti-Sora let out a low, slow hiss as the long needle was pulled out of - well, it couldn’t be called skin, could it? - out of the mass of smoke and shadow that made up its arm. It didn’t hurt, but physical memories were the last to die.
“This won’t make us whole again, but I don’t care.” Replica spoke aloud, disregarding the fact that neither of his companions could answer him.
The procedure done, Anti-Sora jumped off the table and landed on all fours. It shook itself for a moment before going to its customary corner and curling up beside the room’s third occupant.
Shadow Roxas put a hand on Anti-Sora’s head in what could be considered an affectionate gesture. The three of them were Remnants - fragments leftover from other beings. Cast-asides. Unwanted things abandoned by chaos and reason, forced to walk the paths betwixt and between light and dark and even twilight.
It had been the Replica who had found them and gathered them together. The Replica was the most human of them - the most alive. He had found them and brought them back to the abandoned ruins of Castle Oblivion and gave them sanctuary. But the Replica’s ambitions were greater than that. He wanted to give them power. He wanted them to be stronger, to prove that they as fragments didn’t need to be whole to survive. In his thirst for power, the Replica had brought them back to Castle Oblivion and begun to experiment on them in the abandoned laboratories.
Shadow walked over to the table when the Replica beckoned it. It trusted Replica utterly and looked deeply into his eyes as he slid the needle into the shadow’s barely-substantial arm.
“I know you don’t like it,” murmured Replica to Shadow. “It won’t take long.”
True to his word, Replica pulled the needle out again after only a few moments. Shadow didn’t react to the removal of the needle, just as Anti hadn’t. Neither of them were alive enough to feel.
Replica reached up and touched Shadow’s face. The surface was soft and slightly grainy, like touching static. It gave slightly beneath Riku’s fingertips, but Shadow leaned in to the touch. It wasn’t everyone who could touch a shadow. Replica began to lean forward and felt something brush his leg. Anti was on the floor looking up at them, wanting to join in on the fun. Replica smiled and allowed Anti to jump up into his lap.
“Soon,” he whispered to his Remnant brothers. “Soon our day will come.”
