“Sir, I would really like to know the reasoning behind the new room assignments.”
Mario looked up from his list and peered over his desk at Marth. The young prince was standing there uncomfortably, a look of discomfort on his usually impassive face. Mario put down the papers and leaned forward.
“What’s-a the problem?”
“As you recall, last year I was assigned a room with Roy…”
“Yes.”
“But since Roy isn’t back this year, that isn’t possible.”
“Mmhmm.”
“And I understand that you have to place me with someone.”
“What’s-a your point?”
Marth shifted his weight uncomfortably,
“Why am I assigned to share a room with Samus?”
The plumber-cum-basher raised a brow.
“What’s-a wrong with Samus? Don’t you like her?”
“I do! I just… erm… was hoping for a different roommate. Would it be possible to switch?”
“That depends. Did-a you have anyone specific in mind?” Mario sat back in his chair, watching Marth.
“I was thinking about Link.”
No shit, thought Mario to himself. It was common knowledge that the two of them had developed a close relationship, both on and off the battlefield. Mario had actually been expecting something like this since he’d sent out the room assignments.
“I’m-a sorry, but I need Link to stay where he is. Maybe if-a you can get someone to-a trade, we can work something out.”
“I’ll ask around. Thank you, sir.”
Link was waiting for Marth outside the office, waiting to hear the verdict. The sight of Marth’s crestfallen face was more than enough answer. To console his lover, he walked over and put a comforting arm around him.
“It’s all right.”
“I know,” sighed Marth, turning his head to nuzzle one of Link’s ears. “And Mario said that if one of us could get someone to trade rooms, we could make it work. Do you think there’s any way you could talk Ike into rooming with Samus instead?”
“Um…”
Link liked Marth a lot. There was even the possibility that he loved him. But the fact of the matter was that everyone appreciated eye candy and Ike, well… Let’s just say the man looked good polishing a sword.
“I don’t think so.”
“Damn.” With another sigh, Marth nibbled the tip of Link’s ear and began to tug him off. “C’mon, maybe we can go out to the hangar and I can make it up to you.”
Link allowed Marth to pull him off, grinning to himself. With any luck, he would get back just in time to watch Ike get back from the shower.
