[Halloween Fics] - TWENTY-NINE

Riku closed the door to the laboratory behind it quietly.  It wasn’t supposed to be in here.  Master would be angry if he found out… or perhaps not.  But Even would be.  In fact, Even would be furious.  The clone’s fear of its creator was far outstripped by its respect for its master, but Even could still hurt it (and justifiably) if he found Riku in here without permission.

Even knowing the danger, Riku crept into the laboratory.  Even though it was almost pitch black in the room, Riku could see everything as clear as day.  All of the familiar experiments and equipment still stood, sinister reminders of its early years trapped within these walls.  The shining tools, the cold stainless steel tables, the vials and beakers full of liquids that had burned and eaten away flesh… all of the means of torture were still there.  Nothing had changed.

A quiet creak came from the direction of the cages where Even kept his clones, where Riku had used to spend every day and night.  Riku walked over to the cages and threaded his fingers through the chain links.

“Brothers?”

The clones in the cage stood, or tried to.  Some of them no longer had feet to stand upon.  Or even legs.  Those that still had hands slipped them through the links and reached for their long lost brother.

“Aaaah!”  They moaned softly, desperately.  “Aaaah!”

“That’s right… I’m here for you.”  Riku opened the doors to the cages.  All of the clones crowded around Riku, touching it lightly.  They ran their hands over its skin and through its hair, rubbing their faces (in some cases, what remained of their faces) against his clothes.

“Rrrreee…”  A few of them tried to say their brothers name.  They had heard Even say it once and had kept it in their minds, repeating it over and over so that they could remember it for their brother.

“That’s right, I’m Riku now.”  Riku nuzzled a few of the speaking clones, proud of them.  It was the only one who had ever been given a name and not a number.  All of them treasured the name as though it were their own.

“Reeeku.”

Its eyes went to one of the clones on the ground, the one who had managed to say its name.  It was one of the clones whom Even had performed the cruelest of experiments on.  Its feet had been cut off at the ankles, its hands at the wrists.  Riku could tell that the hands had been removed only recently because the stitches were new and were still covered in dried blood.  One of its eyes were milky and it was covered in scars and stitches.  Riku could smell that it was close to death.

“You said my name.”  Riku crouched down to touch the mutilated clone’s face.  “That’s very good.”

The clone shivered with pleasure at Riku’s touch.  “Reekuuu…” it strove upwards, into its brother’s touch.

Riku pulled its brother into its lap.  “I can give you a name,” it said.  “I’ll call you Way.”

“Wwww…”  Way struggled to say its name.  “Way.”

“That’s right.”  Riku sat down and pulled Way close, running its fingers lightly over its brother’s bloody and stitched stumps.  Even had mutilated the clone.  Disfigured it.  Soon, Even would kill it and move on to the next one like a disease.

Way snuggled into its older brother, moaning softly and trying to reach for Riku even though it had no hands with which to reach.  Riku caught Way’s wrist and nuzzled it.

“It’ll be all right…”  Riku purred to Way as he nibbled at the dried blood on the stump.  Way shuddered and gasped, not knowing how to react.  The deformed clone wanted more, more of whatever Riku was doing to it.

Riku ran his tongue across the stitches, feeling pleased when it heard Way moan.  One day, Riku would make Even pay for what he had done to it and its brothers in the name of his twisted science.  Riku would force Even to endure all of the brutality and cruelty that he had apathetically inflicted upon others.

“That’s right,” Riku whispered to way, kissing the clone’s wrist stitches.  “It will all be over soon and you’ll be free…  I’ll make sure of that.”
