In an attempt to turn my CV-style chronological resume into a functional, skills-driven resume, I've been breaking each job down into its component skills. I also skimmed through letters of reference and personnel reviews to gather more ideas. I'm not yet done, but I've learned a lot about myself, about where some of my real strengths are, and got some internal reminders of what I really did enjoy, and not enjoy, about my last career path. It even made me think more about how to go back to it.
At this point, though, I have about 6 pages of skill statements to distill back down to two, to serve as a bank for when I want to create a one-page targeted resume. Whew!
