In which I recap Trip to Niagara Falls in Brief

Oct 17, 2009 19:22

Thursday morning I went to Niagara Falls with some SU classmates to attend the New York Library Association conference. We stayed over night at the Days Inn and returned Friday.
I had fun, I got some free stuff, and maybe networked a little.
In the state of New York, public librarians have to be certified. Up until recently, that just meant paying the state $5. As of 2010 it will mean paying the state $50 and signing up for continuing education for the rest of your career.
I went to a session called "the Best of Reference," where they present the best reference resources. The six women who put it together did it as SNL skits and it was very funny.
Some of the neat directory sites they included were:
Gallup.com (polls & analysis), Business.gov (small business resources), Gov Gab (government resources), prb.org (demographic analysis), and instructables.com (DIY how-to)

In the hotel room which I shared with four other women/girls, we played Scattergories and shared youtube videos we liked. It was a good time. Heather introduced me to Auto Tune the News. If you aren't familiar with it:

Heather ALSO introduced us to this, which is AMAZING.
