F-List Drabbles Batch 5

Oct 16, 2009 23:34

Done! Finally! The Life Offline combined with everything that's been going on over at keytus_tv has been eating up most of my time, but whenever I've had a moment I've been writing. This drabble challenge has done everything that I hoped it would. My muse has come back with a vengeance! So I decided that it's as a very good sign that the last two drabbles wound up being double length just because I had more to say! (Or at least that's what I'm telling myself!)

For those that missed them: Batch 1, Batch 2, Batch 3 & Batch 4

Title: Connected
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Life
Prompts: "Life. One."
For: gatsbyfan
Notes: Spoilers for the final episode of Life.

She stares silently out the car window. Clutching tightly to his badge and some half-remembered Zen, she tries to figure out if she's now supposed to be waiting patiently or acting independently to get him back. He's connected to her and she to him and she suspects her answer's in that somewhere.

But then, like a granted prayer, he's there at the edge of the orchard waiting for her. Like he knew where she'd be. Like she drew him there. She thinks about connections and partners and two halves of a whole and realizes that she shouldn't even be surprised.

Title: Team Toby
Word Count: 100
Fandom: West Wing
Prompts: "Toby & Leo, 'It's up for discussion.'"
For: farmerliz
Notes: I had an idea for this from the very beginning, but it still wound up being one of the last drabbles I wrote.

"Is that everything?"

"Yeah, I think so. Oh, wait.. Hey, Toby!"

"Yeah?"

"Twins?"

"Yes.... Might I ask how you knew that?"

"Josh.... and CJ. And Margaret before them both."

"Gossip doesn't just fly around this place. It breaks the sound barrier."

"Well, you knew that before you opened your mouth."

"Yes, I suppose I did."

"So, you and Andi..."

"It's up for discussion."

"Well, good luck with that."

"Thank you."

"I'm not in any position to offer advice. So I won't. And I'm not wearing any damn hat either."

"For which I'm grateful."

"But Toby?"

"Yes?"

"Congratulations."

"Thank you, Leo."

Title: Five Minute Break
Word Count: 200
Fandom: West Wing
Prompts: "Andy or Donna. High heels."
For: kiss_me_cassie
Notes: I originally intended to use Andy too, but Mrs. Bartlet worked so much better.

You're hiding in a New Hampshire staircase so that you can take a moment to slip off your shoes. You'd worn high heels in an attempt to look more grown up and professional, but you're paying for it now.

"I've been there before," a voice behind you observes. You turn around to see a very amused looking Mrs. Bartlet.

"Ma'am," you stammer and quickly stand.

"Oh now, none of that! Sit! Sit! I was just about to do the same thing," she announces and proceeds to sit down next to you and slip off her own high heels. Yet another surreal moment that nobody back home will ever believe happened.

"You're Josh's new assistant, aren't you?"

"Yes, ma'am. Donna Moss."

"Thought so. Leo's said good things about you. Did you really tell Toby Zeigler that he couldn't interrupt me and my husband?"

"Josh said you weren't to be disturbed."

"Well, thank you for that! I suppose you'd have to be fearless working with Josh all day. Leo was right about you. Well, duty calls," she sighs and rises to her feet.

You rise with her with a grin on your face. Your feet still hurt, but your spirits are soaring.

Title: Psychic
Word Count: 200
Fandom: Gilmore Girls
Prompts: "Luke and Lorelei. Twins"
For: gatsbyfan
Notes: I kept going back and forth on whether I should forget the word count and turn this into ficlet or not. In the end, I think the double drabble works fine.

"I should have bought a lottery ticket back then."

"Lorelei, as much as I try to follow your thought process..."

"I had a psychic moment, Luke."

"When?"

"When I had that dream!"

"Oh, that."

"I'm serious! That dream had everything! Breakfast, the hiding of the coffee, the... OH! The nightgown!"

"What nightgown?"

"I was wearing a really cute nightgown in the dream and I never used to wear nightgowns until someone decided he liked me in them."

"Or out of them. I'm not picky."

"And you woke me up with a thousand alarm clocks, just like you do now."

"Well, to be honest, I only got the idea because you told me about the dream."

"Doesn't make it any less psychic."

"Did your dream have any lotto numbers it?"

"Not really, but..."

"Then it doesn't matter."

"You'd think if you have a psychic dream, there should be some way to profit from it."

"Maybe it was a warning."

"What do you mean?"

"Your dream was warning you that if you didn't want to have twins, then you shouldn't marry me."

"Huh. Well, it's a good thing that I wanted twins, wouldn't you say?"

"Yeah, I would say that it is."

This has been a lot of fun! Thank you to everyone who gave me prompts and to everybody who has read and/or offered encouragement. Let's do this again sometime!
