My Boys ~ Carpe Burritoem

My Boys was SOOOOOOO good tonight. Kenny started a band and got Andy to play bass. Mike agrees to help Stephanie with her "He's Just Not Into You" seminar. And Brendan agreed to let PJ make all his decisions for a week.

You KNOW this isn't going to end well...

I loved every minute starting with the teaser and Brando’s total frustration at how seriously Kenny was taking an Open Mike Night. (I will be honest and state right now that Brendan was a big reason that I loved this episode.) Kenny taking the band way too seriously was classic. Was not expecting him to be kicked out of his own band, though! I swear, I thought it was going to be a “You’re fire”/”Oh thank god, ‘cause I quit scenario.” I nearly died laughing when Andy fired Kenny. And then how the two other band mates solemnly nodded their agreement. Is it too much to hope that Andy’s band stays around?

The Mike thing was actually very predicable, but man, I adore Stephanie! I love how, even though she’s supposed to be the “girly girl” as counterpoint to PJ, Steph isn’t a stereotype. More importantly, you understand why these two are best friends.

And now for my favorite part. The deal was so completely perfect, complete with the return of Dr. Brando. How adorable that Brando wants a little PJ on his shoulder? I love that things blew up, not because PJ made the wrong decision, but because Brendan willfully chose to ignore it. PJ’s look of horror at the train wreak waiting to happen was priceless and was Brandon’s gleefully defiant “yesyesyesyes” to PJ’S “nonononono”. The chemistry between the two actors has always been fantastic. Yes, I still ship PJ/Brendan. (Sorry, Gatz!) I can’t help it. It’s nothing against Bobby, who remains adorable even when he was mostly sitting on the sidelines, like he was in tonight’s episode. It’s just that PJ and Brendan are way too fantastic together. They are truly like a married couple (without the sex) and even more so with PJ making Brando’s decisions. She dresses him, makes him eat healthier… and adorably Brando thinks it’s great.

They almost had to end the episode the way they did, because the only other way that things could have gone back to status quo was if PJ made the wrong decision and Brando suffered because of it. But realistically, of course she wouldn’t, because she was making small, obvious (at least to a girl), decisions and Brando would have been happier at the end of the week. So then the question about PJ continuing to make his decisions would have arisen and they would have had to face that when a girl makes all the little decisions for a guy, generally it’s because she’s his wife or girlfriend. (Witness Andy’s joke about trying something similar with Meredith and never getting his deciding rights back and how PJ has deciding rights for Bobby without poor Bobby even realizing it!) That would then lead them back into territory they’ve both been willfully ignoring since Season 1. And truthfully, I hate when things get angsty between those two, so it’s much better that they end things with everyone going out for the most disgusting burgers known to man! God, my stomach hurts just thinking about it!!
