Some of you may recall that a couple years ago Social Security got it into their heads that they had overpayed my dad while I was still in high school (they didn't), and that it was my responsibility to pay them back to the tune of ~$13,000.00, which I of course don't have. We disputed it, and didn't hear anything back until a few months ago, when they again sent a bill, which I again disputed. Then last week they sent notice to 2Wire to start garnishing my wages. Luckily, I was able to call them and put a stop order on that while I dispute the whole thing again, but according to the guy I talked to, the paperwork may not reach the proper channels in time and I still may have my next check garnished, as well as possibly not getting my economic stimulus.
Therein lies my dilemma: I really need to get my car fixed, as it's getting way too hot to take the bus, and I'd really like to be able to go to Potrero war with Petra. However, if I don't get my $600, I won't be able to do either. I realize Potrero would be more of a luxury type thing (and I don't even know if I'll get the day off), but getting the car running is extremely important. I'm really tired of having to ask people for rides all the time. Not only that, but even considering how high gas prices have gotten, I think it actually costs less for me to drive to work than it does to take the bus.
