This is some bullshit.

So I wasn't allowed to take the first license test yesterday -- and no, it wasn't because of the form thing, they had plenty of forms there.  This is why:

life, rant, rambling, computers, wtf, connecticut, this is why we can't have nice things, driving, emo, frustration

In order for you to get the ball rolling on getting your license, the state requires that you bring, among other things, something called a CS-1 certificate that proves you completed at least 8 hours of classes at an accredited driving school (which cost at least $125, in addition to the $40 to take the test and the $66-$77 to actually get your license). This means that it doesn't matter how old you are, or if you already have a license from another state/country; if you're getting a new license in Connecticut, you have to take driving classes.

Pffft that's ridiculous! In Tennessee you get a significant insurance discount for taking driving classes but it's not required. I'm sure that's well-intentioned and all but what a lot of fucking money to have to spend just to get a license, dear God

Does your state do that graduated license thing where if you're under 18 you can only drive between certain hours of the day and you have to have a certain number of people in the car? They passed a law like that here, luckily after I turned 18 and already had my license. It obviously wouldn't affect you, but I'm just curious.

And this is sorta OT but it always bothers me that state governments can find the time to impose these kinds of stupid restrictions on everyone but they can't require something as simple as getting people over the age of 70 to take a driving test every year to get their license renewed, so technically a 99 year old who can barely see anything can operate a vehicle legally

Yep, in Connecticut driving classes are required. And yeah, I agree with you that it's a lot of money, which involves a whole lot of class issues too. :/

Yeah, here are our laws for drivers under 18, which my sister will have to deal with when she goes for her license. They also have to take an additional knowledge test after they pass their on-the-road test.

I get what you mean, but I guess it's assumed that anyone who's legally blind wouldn't drive anyway. Which is problematic in and of itself, but.....yeah. :PPPP
