Comment to this entry and I'll pick three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:

01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

1. About the fall of 2007, when I first got into college and found out about the anime club, my interest in anime was rekindled to a certain extent, after trying to watch everything I could on Adult Swim and getting tired of it. I came across a website called The Subwire, which was supposed to help you keep track of the anime you watched and manga you read, and it also let you know through e-mail if a sub of a show you're watching just came out. When I joined up, I asked around for some anime recommendations, and SZS was one of them. I downloaded the first episode, eventually found the time to watch it, and that was that. (BTW, I don't use The Subwire all that much anymore -- MyAnimeList is a million times better, IMHO.)

2. Oh, I'll definitely stay, especially because I haven't seen Goku yet, and Zan is supposed to be coming out soon.

3. Hmm, probably the first two or three episodes of the first season. And the murder mystery episode, with Nozomu as a detective. And Zetsubou Fight. And the one with Reinhard von Lohengramm playing pachinko.

4. Not really -- it isn't a very active fandom to begin with, and it's one of those series that's not really condusive for fanfiction -- no overarching plotline, characters that aren't all that well-rounded, over-the-top situations, etc. But it somehow works! (And if I were proficient with Photoshop in any way, I might make icons, but that's a very big "might." That applies to the other two fandoms, BTW.)

5. If you know a lot about Japanese culture, I think you'd really enjoy it; if you don't, you might not understand, oh, I'd say 50% of the jokes. Even still, if you know little about Japan, there are still a ton of jokes that are pretty much universal. I don't know everything about Japan, and that hasn't stopped me from enjoying it! (Though I'd suggest starting with the first season first.)

Gundam 0079

1. Back when I first got really interested in anime (I'd say it was the summer of 2005), I was poking around Wikipedia to find out more information about anime. This was one of the titles that kept popping up, as an influential series that enjoyed widespread popularity in Japan ever since it came out thirty years ago, much like how Star Wars has remained popular here. (The fact that some Japanese millionaire wanted to go into space dressed up as Char Aznable at around the same time probably helped too.) Then recently, when I found out there was a fansub group doing this series, I jumped at the chance because I had made a mental note to see it. (I'm still stuck at episode seven -- DAMN YOU COLLEGE!!!!! D: Oh well, I'll get myself caught up this summer.) Oh yes, and in the interim I, for some strange reason, started downloading as much official art and fanart of Char as I could. This is strange because I usually don't download official art or fanart of anything because, well, I just never got in the habit. It had to be the kickass uniform. Crap.

2. I'll be staying. The Universal Century franchise looks so so interesting, even if I can't make heads or tails of it most of the time! (Ironically, none of the other timelines seem to interest me as much. Hmm.)

3. ...Let me watch more episodes this summer and I'll tell you! ;-)

4. If I ever do get into writing fanfiction (which may happen), I'll probably end up writing for this. But again, small fandom = not much fic out there = not much inspiration to write some of your own. Meh, we'll see.

5. Everyone who calls themselves an anime fan should see this. Even if you're not into mecha, it's one of the cornerstones of the medium.

Death Note

1. I think this was either another title that got recommended to me on The Subwire, or I came across it when looking for anime to watch two autumns ago, or because it got mentioned so many times on fandomsecrets. Probably a combination of the three.

2. I'm not really in the fandom to begin with, I'm just a member of some communities. The fandom is pretty known for being batshit insane, and I don't think I want to be associated with that. A friend of mine IRL rec'd me two fics she thought were really good, but they're still WIPs and neither one has updated in quite a long time, and I haven't had the chance to read them yet; I don't think I care enough to, at least right now. Besides, the fandom looks to be dying anyway, so I'm thinking about leaving those communities and just moving on.

3. Definitely the first arc of the anime (I haven't read the manga, so I don't know how that is). I was absolutely hooked onto the series as I watched it, but looking back the other two arcs were extremely contrived, and really squandered the potential the series could've had. (Of course, I was expecting the show to focus more on the morality/ethics of using the Death Note, and how it and the shinigami world worked without having them be shoehorned into the plot, and less on the cat-and-cat chase between Light and L, but alas.)

4. No. I may write a fic or two somewhere down the line, but I don't think I'll every be active. I'm pretty much over it.

5. If you're looking for something fun without being too mindless, this is a good one to watch -- even with all its flaws, it's still better than a lot of the other anime out there right now. But if you're really undecided -- don't. It wouldn't be worth your time.

(I actually wanted to do Transformers, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Gurren Lagann, just because my responses would be much more interesting, but w/e. :-P)

Speaking of which, today is the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Transformers franchiseHappy birthday Transformers!  You're exactly 5 years and 1 month older than I am.  ;-)  (And holy crap, my 20th birthday is in exactly one month...O_o)
