My name is Noelle, and I love music. :)
Everything is split up into 5 groups of 4 icons. Three of the groups are techniques I am trying to work on and get better at. One is a style I love too much. And one is of newer styles I have recently been playing with. Each icon is inspired directly by a song. Music is a huge part of my life and who I am. I listen to music probably 12 hours a day.. I really love it. I chose the subject of each icon carefully, and both the songs and the icons reflect parts of who I am. The title of each song links to youtube, in case you'd like to hear them. :)
group 1
technique I'm trying to improve: blocking
[1-4]
1. Olivia Dunham, Fringe -
Radiohead - Idioteque - we're not scaremongering, this is really happening - Discordant, frenetic, dystopian, disjointed. This is my favorite Radiohead song.. possibly my favorite song ever.
2. Kyle Reese & Sarah Connor, The Sarah Connor Chronicles -
Guster - Lightning Rod - the sky is caving in, but I will remain the honest soldier - A song about holding fast in the face of adversity.
3. Dexter Morgan, Dexter -
Oingo Boingo - Insanity - cut you open with a knife and find your sacred heart - A song about deterioration of society, and while I'm not always as cynical as this song, I do feel this way sometimes.
4. "Brave New World, part II," Fringe -
Muse - Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 1: Overture - you stole my overture/trapped in God's program/oh, I can't escape - Haunting, cinematic, and sad.
group 2
technique I'm trying to improve: pale coloring
[5-8]
5. Cordelia Chase, Angel -
Marina and the Diamonds - I Am Not A Robot - don't be so pathetic/just open up and sing - This song kind of speaks for itself. I wish I were half as witty and amazing as Cordy, but I do see some of myself in her. <3
6. Peter Bishop/Olivia Dunham, Fringe -
Bloc Party - Ion Square - if we could stay like this in a silver foil/trapped in amber for life/permanent midnight/our love, our love - THOSE LYRICS THO. I love Bloc Party though because their lyrics always seem to say something meaningful about life that I can identify with.
7. Aidan Waite, Being Human (US) -
Gotye - Smoke and Mirrors - you're a fraud and you know it/but it's too good to throw it all away - Yeah I feel this way sometimes, lol.
8. Olivia Dunham & Altlivia Dunham, Fringe -
Radiohead - Everything In Its Right Place - there are two colours in my head - Fringe had an episode called Everything in Its Right Place and so it seemed so fitting to use Fringe. This song just makes me feel like a part of the universe as a whole.
group 3
technique I'm trying to improve: vibrant coloring
[9-12]
9. The Ninth Doctor, Doctor Who -
Regina Spektor - Blue Lips - blue lips, blue veins/blue, the color of our planet from far, far away/blue, the most human color - As cynical as I can be sometimes, I love our planet full of stupid apes. XD
10. John Sheppard, Stargate Atlantis -
The Killers - When You Were Young - he doesn't look a thing like Jesus/but he talks like a gentleman - The Killers' second album, Sam's Town, is one of my favorites, and this is my favorite song off it. I find it soo.. American. Kinda dirty, gritty, fearless, and unapologetic. I love that about this song.
11. Elizabeth Shaw & David, Prometheus -
John Murphy - In the House, In a Heartbeat (28 Days Later OST) - instrumental - Everything John Murphy's ever done is amazing, and this is one of his crowning pieces. The tension as the song comes to a boil.. I love it. It kind of just makes me think of the unending fantasticness of the universe.
12. The Tenth Doctor, Doctor Who -
Incubus - The Warmth - so don't let the world bring you down/not everyone here is that fucked up and cold/remember why you came and while you're alive/experience the warmth before you go - This again is the thing that makes me identify with the Doctor (in all his forms); his quest to find the good in humanity.
group 4
style I love too much: uneven borders
[13-16]
13. Gwen Cooper, Torchwood -
Great Northern - Low is a Height - save yourself from/from the ground you break/and the lives you take - I once practically wrote a thesis on how Gwen Cooper represents the ordinary person, and that's why I love her. I see a lot of myself in her, even the not-so-pretty parts.
14. Sybil Crawley, Downton Abbey -
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine - be kind to me, or treat me mean/I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine - I will carry on through life, through all its ups and downs. :3
15. Gwen Cooper & Jack Harkness, Torchwood -
Modest Mouse - Parting of the Sensory - someday you will die and someone or something will steal your carbon - The opposite of upbeat, I guess you'd say. But it's pretty much my outlook on death and in a way it's inspiring to think of. That your matter will release back into the world and other things will incorporate them into their life essence.
16. John Watson & Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock BBC -
Incubus - In The Company of Wolves - I was low but now I am high/it helps to know serenity from ennui/something's wrong, something's wrong, when it all remains the same - A song about change and growth.
group 5
techniques I'm still pretty new at: muted coloring, monochrome, image slicing, multiply layers
[17-20]
17. Gwen Cooper, Torchwood -
Kanye West - Lost in the World - I'm lost in the world/I'm down my whole life - Kanye's verse about having a ~classic night aside, the heart and soul of this song is about finding meaning in life, and of surviving side by side with everyone else.
18. Leeloo & Korben Dallas, The Fifth Element -
Gorillaz - Last Living Souls - sing a song that doesn't sin - A song about corruption of spirit. Wow all my songs are super depressing when you get down to it. OH WELL, I have a lot of conflicted feelings about the state of our planet, I can't help it, lol.
19. Carrie Mathison & Nicholas Brody, Homeland -
MuteMath - Prytania - it doesn't matter how opposite we are/I'll be the last to break your heart - Unf. Bluesy, deep, and dark. I love non-sappy love songs.
20. Sarah Connor (& Kyle Reese), The Sarah Connor Chronicles -
Keane - Atlantic - I don't want to be old and sleep alone/an empty house is not a home/I don't want to be old and feel afraid - Slow, sad, and truthful.
