[Ahiru stands shivering under an umbrella and walks carefully around the pond in Xanadu where the ducks live. She's been fretting over them ever since the rain became too stormy for her to go out. It might be silly to worry over them--they're ducks, after all, they're used to dealing with dramatic changes in the weather--but Ahiru still feels

[Now that the rain is somewhat tapering off, Rosetta is finally able to practice again. Even a day or two stuck indoors without the space she needs has been frustrating to her. Now she wanders around Xanadu, looking for a spot without too many puddles...only to be distracted by the odd sight of someone using their laptop in the middle of the rain]

Aren't you worried that you'll get electrocuted doing that?

[quackingly]

[Ahiru looks up from the screen and stares at the girl for a moment, then looks up at the clouds uneasily.]

I don't hear any thunder, so...

[spinningdiabolo]

But...it's soaking wet out here. If I were you, I'd be worried!

[quackingly]

R-Really? Do you really think something could happen? I mean, it's just water, isn't it?

[spinningdiabolo]

[Rosetta frowns, unsure if this other girl is really that clueless or if she's just stupid]

Well, yeah! Water and electric things generally don't go well together. Didn't you know that?

[quackingly]

Huh?! [She looks down at the computer, then points at it.] You mean...this thing?

[spinningdiabolo]

...you aren't really this dumb, are you? You're just playing a joke on me or something.

[quackingly]

[a knee-jerk reaction] I'm not a moron! We just don't have computers where I'm from!

[spinningdiabolo]

Well how was I supposed to know that? You've got one right now!

[She sighs and shakes her head] Whatever. It's just not usually seen as smart to take those sorts of things anywhere with water. What were you going to do if it started raining?

[quackingly]

I don't know. I guess I'd hold my umbrella over it so it wouldn't get wet?

[spinningdiabolo]

I...I suppose that would work...maybe a little bit...

What are you doing out here, anyway? I thought everyone else was staying inside until the floods started receeding more.

[quackingly]

Oh! I was checking on the ducks! I was worried that they might've gotten hurt during the storm.

[spinningdiabolo]

I thought ducks liked the rain?

[She looks away for a moment, suddenly shy, and then asks in a whisper:] Can I see them?

[quackingly]

Well, yeah, but yesterday it was really pouring, and a bird could get hurt in weather like that!

[practically beaming as soon as Rosetta asks her question] Of course! Do you like ducks?

[spinningdiabolo]

I don't know...I've never really seen...I mean...sometimes they have them at the petting zoos for kids, but I never got to go to see any of the animals, so...

They don't bite, do they?

[quackingly]

[laughs] No, silly! They don't even have any teeth!

[She jumps up from the bench she was sitting on and waves Rosetta to follow her.]
