Alright. [ His voice is curt and rushed, tone a bit winded ] I intend to come back immediately, but I can't really talk at the momen-- [ Fakir's voice is drowned out by a rather angry roar, followed by a string of rapid curses from the ex-knight's mouth. ]
Just--- [ rapid shuffling of feet, followed by a series of metallic clangs ] Stay put. I'll be ba--- [ transmission blows out to heavy static before abruptly cutting off entirely. ]
[ Dodging another swipe of the ugly creature's claws, Fakir cast a quick glance down to where the handheld had fallen, noting with a grimace that it was busted into two pieces. Just great. He'd have to buy another one. ]
Ngghh! [ Wincing, he caught one of the thing's nasty paw (was that even what it was? He could hardly tell with the lack of light in the Underground) with the blade of his sword, but the other had just caught the side of his shoulder, tearing the material of his already-worn and tattered shirt and biting into the flesh.
Dammit! He didn't have time to deal with this nuisance now! Bloody damn thing was probably just waiting until he was distracted to attack. And he had to return to the Opera quickly - without Rue around, that was one less capable person of holding down the fort and keeping an eye on Ahiru and Shin. He couldn't leave them without his protection any longer
( ... )
[Ahiru rushed into the Underground, holding onto the stick in her hand like a lifeline as she did. She'd never been down here before...but it was just as creepy as she'd imagined. And so BIG! How was she even going to find--
It was then that she heard Fakir's voice. Her first thought was to be thrilled--she found him already! But the thought right after that was the realization that he sounded like he was in pain. She grit her teeth and rushed forward into the dark.
...And nearly ran straight into the monster Fakir was fighting. She was so close, in fact, that she could feel the thing's breath on her face. She jumped back and nearly quacked, just barely remembering to cover her mouth in time. ...She was starting to realize how bad of an idea this was. Raising her "weapon" in what she hoped was a threatening manner, she forced herself to shout some words.]
[ Fakir's concentration on his fight with the monster had been so intense that he hadn't even heard the new arrival. Not until she'd made herself known with that unmistakable loud, duck-like voice of hers. And he nearly dropped his weapon right then in a mixture of disbelief and utter shock as he turned to stare at her with wide green eyes.
What the HELL was she doing here!? Adrenaline and a fresh burst of anger and desperation running through his veins, Fakir grit his teeth before yelling out-- ]
AHIRU! YOU--YOU GODDAMN IDIOT! GET OUT OF HERE! NOW! [ Amidst his furious shouts, he caught the beast moving in his peripheral vision - moving toward her. Feeling a wave of dread, the ex-knight lashed out almost on instinct, rushing at the beast with an almost feral cry. He would NOT let this thing hurt her--- ]
[ But it seemed the creature had been prepared for the action, abruptly turning toward Fakir again as he charged toward it---and swiping one of its giant claws right into his oncoming figure. Unprepared for the swift counter to his imminent attack, the dark-haired boy took the blow right to his middle, knocking the breath out of him and sending the ex-knight flying back into the stone wall as his sword spun away on the ground, fully out of reach. A painful grunt fell from his lips as he slowly picked himself up off of the jagged stone, stuggling to get to his knees and reach around in the dirt blindly for his missing weapon. He cast another glance to the redhead as the creature released another roar, closing in on him...
Hurry and run, he thought, unable to voice the words, and hoping his thoughts could somehow reach her. As long as she got out safely, that was all he cared about. ]
[That was it. It'd hurt him! If she left now, he could be killed, and then...then it'd be like Sandalphon all over again.
No! She wouldn't let that happen! Not after Professor Cat had given up his "life" so that Fakir could lose his own again!
She was scared of it...but she was also angry. And that anger gave her enough courage to rush forward and swing the stick up into the air, bringing it down on the monster's rump with a THWACK!]
[The monster turned its attention to her, starting to stalk towards her, growling under its breath. The anger was gone now, and now she was very, very scared. She was realizing just what she was up against. Ahiru backed up, waving her stick in front of her.]
Go away...go away....goawaygoawaygoaway!!
[The monster didn't follow her request--instead, it rushed towards her. Before she could get away, it dove towards her ankle and sunk its teeth in. She screamed in pain, turning her face away and closing her eyes tight, and in desperation thrust the stick forward--
And jammed it into the monster's eye. The monster yelped and stumbled backwards, stunned, as Ahiru turned back towards him and stared in shock.]
[ Why was she provoking it!? That stupid, stupid, STUPID IDIOT! He couldn't see well, but he had heard her scream - that thing had done something to her! Dammit all--why couldn't he protect the people important to him when it mattered the most!?
His oncoming wave of self-loathing was only halted by shock and utter disbelief when the monster had screeched out and trampled backward as something long and thin had been shoved into its face.
Fakir blinked his open eye once... twice...
What the hell had just---Ahiru had...? There was no bloody way! ]
[Ahiru watched it for a moment, gasping for breath, when she realized that it'd just come after her or Fakir once it recovered...she had to chase it off, and do it NOW, while it was still hurt and scared.
Ignoring the pain in her leg, she drove forward, bringing the mop handle over her head.]
You...you...BIG MEANIE! [THWACK! She hit him over the head with it, hard.] Y-YOU'RE A WORSE JERK THAN HE IS! [THWACK!!] GO AWAY! [THWACK!]
[The creature had enough. With a baleful cry it whirled around and darted back down towards the deeper parts of the Underground, followed by Ahiru swinging her stick wildly after it until she was sure it was gone. Once it was, she turned back and started walking towards Fakir, dragging her stick behind her.]
[ He was stunned to silence, still staring in the direction the monster had been chased off in.
Chased off by a short redhead, hitting it with nothing but a STICK. It wasn't...adding up in his head. He had to have been hallucinating. The scene was more like a gag out of a storybook or...
Vaguely in the back of his mind, he realized Ahiru had rescued him. And then proceeded to chase the wounded monster off.
With a stick. With nothing more than a goddamn stick. And he had been struggling against the creature with sword.
This was... This was humiliating. He was relieved that she was alright, which went without saying, but she had just made quick work of something he had been actively fighting against for at least fifteen minutes.
[Ahiru began to walk towards him faster, her heart skipping a beat. He..he wasn't answering! Oh no...oh no...oh no...he was dead! Dead! It'd killed him, she was too late, he was probably sitting there bleeding to death while she was freaking out--
She dropped the stick on the ground and ran towards him, throwing her arms around him and starting to sob.]
Fakir! Fakir, please, hold on, it'll be okay, I won't let you die again!
[ The unexpected embrace brought him back down to earth quickly - as there was nothing like pain as a wake up call. His voice erupted, hoarse and shallow-- ] Ow--Ow ow OW! Let go, dammit! That--- [ He picked up one hand as though to shove her off, but stopped short, feeling her body shake slightly around him as she... was she crying? What the hell--he didn't know what to do when girls cried! ] Stop--stop blubbering, moron. I'm not going to die.
Alright, listen to me. Just stay inside. Got that?

But...isn't there some way you can come home? It's just...weird, not having you both here.

[Ahiru randomly punches at some buttons. It was just a problem on her end, right? Nothing happened to Fakir...
But there was roaring, and he was in a fight, and--no, Fakir was in trouble. He was definitely in trouble. He told her to stay put, but...
But what if he got hurt? What if he got killed? All alone by himself ( ... )
