Well here's a bit of an update on my life. The most important thing I suppose is the cat Wendy rescued. We've named him Pyramus and he's living in my room until we can find a good home for him. He's pretty wonderful (I'll post a couple of pictures eventually) and we adore him but we can't keep him so we're just making sure he has a good life while waiting to find a permanent home.

Lets see: I dressed as a ghost for halloween (pictures forthcoming on that too) and Wendy and I trekked over to the village for the Halloween parade. As usual we couldn't see much of anything but it was nice anyway. We both had a lot of school work though so we couldn't stay out long. There were some fabulous costumes though, including a great Medusa.

Last Wednesday was the Rufus Wainwright concert. He's always great live and it was a good show although his voice was definitely not in top form. He has a song called "Gay Messiah" which he's now singing it attached to a cross and wearing a mask and a crown of thorns. I think it's a pretty effective both as a piece of showmanship and as a commentary on the current state of Christianity. I would imagine that it offends some people, but I'm not necessarily sure that's a bad thing and besides, I feel like people should know what they're getting into with a Rufus Wainwright concert. He also played a new song called "Low Grade Happiness" that was truly lovely. The piano section in the middle was just gorgeous. Regina Spektor opened and was just as good as I expected her to be. I would have liked it if she'd had a longer set though.

Friday Natalie called me to say that she was in the city and ask if she could stay with me which was very exciting. I always love it when friends visit. I was going to see a show called "Ashley Montana Goes Ashore in the Caicos" with my grandmother though so I couldn't be there when she got to my place (Wendy let her in). The show was really good. Bebe Neuwirth was in it and was great. It was really a series of sketches on American life. Comic (Neuwirth sang a song called "Nothing Rhymes with Ashcroft But My Heart) but there were also parts that were extremely poignant. Later that evening Kirsten and her roommate and Jenny (who was in town on a school trip) and a couple of her friends came over and we hung out. It was great to see them and Pyramus was in heaven because he got lots of very nice attention. Of course later on he was not so much in heaven because he threw up in Natalie's bed. Thankfully she was wonderful and calm about it.

Saturday I went up to St. John the Divine (me - in a church) to see Natalie sing the final part of Beethoven's 9th. I'd seen her choir sing it last year at BAM and they were great both then and on Saturday. The whole thing was an Interfaith Concert of Remembrance for victims of genocide and was just great. There was a new piece called "The Place of Beginnings" which was about the Armenian Genocide that I really loved.

Sunday I did a bunch of school work and then watched "Death in Venice" which I was quite disappointed in. I mean, it was a visually stunning film. Just incredibly beautiful. But the pacing was deadly. I'm not sure I've ever seen a movie so slow. Whatever. All in all it was a pretty great week. The weather's been lovely and I've actually been getting out and doing things, which always reminds me why I love New York. There's always something wonderful or surprising going on.
