hey my friend wrote this poem that i really really liked so read it!!!
Otherness
By Tiffany
In this world of ours, we are known to be all the same.
We are taught to not judge appearances but to judge internally
In our faulty society, those rules do not apply.
When we see a young girl walking on the street wearing a light pink lacy dress,
We imagine that she has a good life with caring relatives and parents.
Who knows, she could be a child with abusive parents and is as poor as the mouse down the road who just happened to find a pink dress in the lost and found.
How can we know her back round if we just forejudge and don’t understand who she truly is.
As in parents,
If their children bring home a motorcyclist, they will completely shut them down from given a chance to prove themselves.
They judge the person that because he loves to take chances and loves the feeling of speed when he rides a bike, he is completely disregarded and placed into the “Other” category.
But what is an other?
Is it there because people in society cannot explain it and are afraid to face it because it is out of the ordinary? Just because people bike as a living they are considered dangerous and strange because he is not an average well suited man?
But is there really an other? Or are we all others in our own way?
Why can’t people give others chances to prove themselves?
Why do people think that two opposites can’t attract?
What if they aren’t opposites at all and are all symmetrical inside?
What if being with someone different is the cure for your otherness?
What if you are a shy person and the person you love is the opposite?
Cannot the lively person bring out your shyness and tuck it away into the closet?
Why is society so corrupt and why won’t it allow worlds to combine into a united place?
Why does society shun people into the dark if they are afraid themselves?
Why do people automatically disregard people who are not exactly identical to them?
Speaking of identical, why do people think that twins must have the same thoughts and emotions? Some are so sick of being treated as one when in reality they are two separate human beings. Some are even force to commit suicide because they feel that there cannot be two of them on the planet.
Why can’t we all be thought for who are inside? And why do people who don’t understand us just think we have problems and are ill? When truthfully all we need is someone to talk to, someone to share our feelings with, someone that cares.
But since society is so demanding, that we cannot show our emotions and they are all bulged up inside of us and who can we tell? No one.
It is so filled up inside of us that we start going mental because of the loss of attention and the loss of communication, we the “others” are considered abnormal and shipped to some insane center where people think they understand us but really don’t.
Why won’t this world give us a chance to prove ourselves?
Why won’t society give us a voice to speak and share our feelings?
Why can’t we all be ...equal?
