....I just submitted my application for a fellowship to go to Germany this summer. If I get it, I will spend a month in Germany studying how to be a German teacher at Leipzig University, and will only have to pay for the plane ticket, lunch and dinner, and any fun money I may want. This will be HUGE- it will be an immersion situation (all classes in german), so my skills will be put to the test immediately, and I'll have to tread water from the get. BUT. with a month in an immersion situation, I'm betting my skills will improve to the point of being able to pass the PRAXIS: German Content Knowledge. which is all that stands between me and teaching certification.
Writing the 200 word essay in German for the application was, sadly, probably the most work I've put my brain through in more than a year. It was HARD, too. I'm so out of practice!!! I was gratified to see, however, that it got easier as I wrote more. So maybe my skills with the german language aren't yet COMPLETELY atrophied.
Wow. If I get into this program, I'm not sure what I'll do. Probably scream. then start worrying about the plane ticket, and renewing my passport, and the extra money I'd need for food and etc.
...ye gods.
Wish me luck.
