Reading woes

Mar 07, 2011 13:23

So, I'm on the last Lucifer Box novel, and after that I've only got one more Sherlock Holmes short story collection to read. And after that, my literary cupboard is bare.

:(

Anyone read anything good lately?

Guidelines: I like steampunk, though you should know I thought Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell was the most overrated waste of space ever published. (Honestly, how many thousands of pages, and nothing actually happens???) I also like certain horror novels with an element of fantasy: I just finished Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas series and liked it well enough, as long as you ignore the two-dimensional 'wounded woobie' characters and increasing blatant religious overtones. And I do like straightforward fantasy authors sometimes, like Neil Gaiman, but have been consistently unable to make myself fall in love with the works of either Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams. Yes, there's probably something wrong with me. I acknowledge this. But recs from other authors would be most welcome.

Recommends?
