The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie.
It's the semi-autobiographical story of a young Indian boy's first year at an all-white high school*. Neil Gaiman gave it the highest praise I can ever imagine anyone giving a young adult novel (or any novel, for that matter): "I have no doubt that in a year or so it'll both be winning awards and being banned."
Is good; go read.
