Something to tide us over

For anyone suffering Sherlock withdrawl, may I recommend Mark Gatiss's novel The Vesuvius Club?

If you want to get an idea what the main character's like, think what would happen if Sherlock Holmes, Oscar Wilde, and Dr. Frank N Furter all had a baby. Although, if you're listening to the audiobook, it's nearly impossible not to imagine Mycroft in the role, as the narrative is all in first-person.

There's some lovely accompanying artwork, as well as quite a fetching graphic novel version from the same artist (ILU, Powell's Books).

Lots of wacky characters; funny as hell, with a wit so dry it could wither figs. Plus there are two sequels, so hey, that'll keep you occupied for at least a good, oh, week or so while we try to wait out the entire YEAR until the new series.

Q

mark gatiss, sherlock, book lust
