Okay, I admit I am all for bending canon a little now and then to make your story do what you want it to...hell, Moffat and Gatiss do that crap left right and centre, and they WROTE the fucking thing.
" Look here, Watson; you look regularly done. Lie down there on the sofa and see if I can put you to sleep."
- "The Sign of the Four", chapter 8
The casual slash in the books adds greatly to the landscape of my happy place, yesindeedy.
As for the show, though, and the fanfic spawned from it...a little internal logic/consistency isn't too much to ask for, is it? Is it?? *pleading face*
Furthermore...qthewetsprocketSeptember 26 2010, 22:34:06 UTC
"In the dim light of the lamp I saw him sitting there ... silent, motionless, with the light shining upon his strong-set aquiline features. So he sat as I dropped off to sleep, and so he sat when a sudden ejaculation caused me to wake up ... "
- "The Man With the Twisted Lip"
Really, the amount of time they spend ejaculating at each other in the books is quite astonishing.
Also, from the same story:
"I am sure, Mr. Holmes, that we are very much indebted to you for having cleared the matter up. I wish I knew how you reach your results."
"I reached this one," said my friend, "by sitting upon five pillows and consuming an ounce of shag."
Re #2, now I want to watch this again! (Again.) He doesn't want Mycroft touching him, but at that point Mycroft's some freaky kidnapper in a warehouse. He doesn't want...whoever that older man is, in TGG, that his sister was killed? He keeps backing off from him, but that's because Older Man is all up in his extremely personal space and practically licking his lips.
Are there other times I should be watching out for? People not wanting to be touched is one of those things I really, really like. /o\
Also, Sherlock hugs Mrs. Hudson unsolicited (twice, I think)--what's up with that?
Again with the creepy kidnapper thing, but 2. he flinches away from Moriarty twice in the swimming pool scene: once when Moriarty glides up behind him and tells him he can talk, and once when he brings his face close during the "they're so touchingly loyal" line.
(I hate to say it, but Watson's body language in that scene kind of makes me see why so many fic writers think there was some kind of sexual assault before Moriarty's men put the bomb jacket on him - that kind of flinch reaction is usually more commonly associated with PTSD from a more intimate/interpersonal attack, like a physical assault, rape, or torture, rather than combat trauma. Am working on a meta post on the subject; hopefully I will get it finished sometime before the tenth of ever.)
Also, Sherlock hugs Mrs. Hudson unsolicited (twice, I think)--what's up with that?Does he really?? My word. Will have to watch for that again (dear dear, the things I do for meta). Maybe as a child he was trained to hug older female relatives - possibly to smooth any ruffled feathers
