Wishful thinking: final A2a scene?
I've mentioned my perfect ending before in comments to other posts, but here it is again for the record:
Alex takes over as the Governor of the copper's limbo. Gene accepts his death and goes into the stars, aka Heaven...which for him turns out to be The Railway Arms. Someone's already waiting for him at the bar.
Sam: "There you are...you took your bloody time! Your round, I think."
Drinks all round; fade out; THE END.
I'm starting to think it'll be more likely that Chris takes over, though, and Alex gets to wake up...mostly because I want a callback to the Danny Boy lyrics in 3x05:
And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
I just think the image of Alex placing a single red rose on Gene's grave, or at least the spot where they found him, would be a lovely capper to their whole story arc. ("Ave" = "Hail Mary" = rosary = roses = Operation Rose from s2. Yeah, I know, it's a stretch. But it would be very fitting, not to mention incredibly touching.)
Oh, and as long as we're making wishes? I'd love to see at least one scene of the Guv standing over Keats and holding him down with his foot...like so, or so. Yes, I'm still stuck on that old theory...in my mind, the archangel will always have a pint in one hand and a butty in the other.
So, yeah. Those are my wishes for the ending.
