i hope not! it's speculation on my part, but i'm thoroughly convinced that he and donna don't live through the specials. it'd be just like rtd to go all ianto jones on them and use their deaths as a cheap emotional lever / plot device to motivate the doctor to do...something he was gonna do anyway (ie, defeat the master).

See, this is the one argument the RTD apologists make that really chafes my hide. Since when do you have to be a published writer to be able to point out that someone's done a sloppy job of writing? I'm no house painter, but I know when someone's done a crappy job of bordering or has let the paint run, and moreover, I'm paying their salary to do it a lot better than that.
Granted, there should be limits to the amount of input fandom has in the show, or else nothing would ever get done...you need someone with a unified vision to pull it all together. But saying that, as an informed, intelligent fan, you're unqualified to make a valid, constructive criticism just because you've never had your name on anything in print? Is just assinine, arrogant and wrong.
