today everything was half off at the local salvation army store. whoohoo! yesterday i scoped out the sales floor for all the stuff i wanted so i could go through and snaffle everything i wanted at top speed. unusually enough, i happened to be awake when they opened, so i joined the queue in front of the doors, and - sadly, typically enough - ended up standing next to a guy with some obvious mental problems who wanted to rant about vancouver and christianity. i had the wisdom not to engage him in coversation; the lady behind me was not so fortunate.
anyway, the haul:
midnight blue terrycloth bathrobe, never been worn or laundered - $2 (has an annoying ING bank logo on it, but hey, a brand new bathrobe for two bucks? worth it).
stuff for a craft project i'm pondering: 50 cents to $1 each. i've had amazing luck with the bric-a-brac section at this store; i've found some really great treasures on the cheap.
the main reason i went, though? not only did they have a passable-looking sam tyler jacket in my size...they had a gene hunt camel coat! in a ladies' style! clearly, i had to buy it. it was madatory. and i snagged 'em both for half price. *boogies* i also got a suitably 1970's shirt and some corduroy trousers; and i already had some cuban-heeled boots i found at a thrift shop in portland (shut up; they were on sale for 75% off and going for two bucks! again, mandatory).
yes, my ducklings, i has fallen well and truly into the cosplay trap. no idea when i'll be remotely able to go to a convention and wear the stuff, and am also painfully aware that i'll never have the height to make the camel coat work. but hey, most people are taller than me, so i probably wouldn't have much trouble finding someone to play gene to my sam.
Q
