Fuck Your Life

Wow, an update from me. Once a month. Haha. I figure since I have no desire to write about my personal day-to-day life anymore I might as well post an opinion on something you might or might not've seen.

Jun 21 - US Senator says BAN upcoming game "25 TO LIFE"

Okay, so apparently people never learn. Violent video games have been around since day one. I guess it only got so "serious" when games started to look real. Didn't the same thing happen like 12 years ago with Mortal Kombat? I can honestly say that to this day, I have yet to punch somebody in the chest and rip out their heart. I've also never tried, nor had the desire to.

I'm sure everyone can remember the ruckus that happened when Grand Theft Auto 3 was released too. Everyone acts like the ONLY goal in these games is to kill cops. Seriously... what? Who could be so stupid as to think that, especially when all you have to do is read a paragraph on a preview or on the back of the box and get the premise of the entire game. Now if you're that lazy to do so, then don't dare raise your voice thinking you're making a difference in the world.

Senator Charles Schumer, D-NY, says the objective of the game called "25 to life" is to shoot police officers, and use civilians as human shields. He claims the game is so gruesome that it lowers common decency.

Like I said, after a quick look, this is what I found:

25 to Life is the game the streets have been waiting for. Play as either cops or gangsters, in this urban action third person shooter. The game delivers intense Online gameplay for up to 16 players, as well as a rich single player experience. Set in the heart of today’s cities, experience the gritty lifestyles of police task forces or as a gangster survive the local neighborhood thugs while fighting your way up the ranks. Bust out of prison, or infiltrate the inner sanctum of the drug lord’s mansion, your knowledge of the streets will be put to the test because… 25 to Life IS the streets!

So you can even play AS cops and go after criminals. Yet, the entire game is to kill cops. Right.

'25 To Life' makes "'Grand Theft Auto' look like 'Romper Room,'" Schmuer said.

So I'm guessing this guy hasn't ever played any of these games a day in his life, or been educated in them. One of the very first missions in the ORIGINAL GTA was to blow up a police precinct because a dirty cop wouldn't pay up.

I've been playing video games since I was old enough to understand them. Fuck, I was born in '81, aside from hiphop, this is the culture I grew up in. I've owned probably all of the controversial games, and have played a shit load of more violent ones. I'm perfectly fine. I've never tried to kill anyone. I've wanted to on plenty of occasions. Who hasn't? Never once did I feel as though I wanted to because I played a fucking game. I can name movies that are more violent than some of these games. Although no one wants to ban them.

The bottom line is no one has ever killed anyone because of a game or movie. Sure, the excuse has been used before, but I refuse to believe there are people that AREN'T mentally challanged that don't know right from wrong. If you're crazy, you're just crazy, period. A game is not going to make you do something. It's just an easy cop-out for people. Those people fuel these fucking senators and congressmen to do stupid shit like this without even knowing a goddamn thing about it.

Games have ratings, as do movies. USE THEM. ENFORCE THEM. Don't sell a copy of GTA to a 4 year old, unless the parent is educated on to what it is and is perfetly fine with it. Let parents do their fucking job. I understand we live in a time where no one wants to actually PARENT a kid when they have one, but it's their job.

These plans always backfire anyway. When you try to put a ban on something, it sells more due to the mass attention it gets. Am I worried about this? Not in the least. Annoyed? You're gottdamn right.
