Day One

I'm going to try to keep a running story of Wilber, for me, for the kids, and for you if you care to read lol.

Wilber is a 7week old black standard poodle puppy. We are his foster family for the next 10-18 mos till he goes to school to become a Guide Dog.

We picked up Wilber today. Kids were so excited. We know what we are getting into, and it amazes me the amount of people that question that. I understand their concern, but after the umteenth same question of how the kids are going to handle it when he leaves us for Guide Dog school... I let the kids answer now. Yes we will miss him, of course we will. We are well aware also that we have him only till he is ready to move on to his school, and then eventually to the person that needs him to make their life easier.

He has an attachment to JJ already, following him around and crying when he is not there. LOL, I had to call JJ in from outside to sit with him while he ate tonight.

I have a feeling it might be a long night, we are crate training him, and I'm sure that just as I am ready for bed he will be up, ready to play and not wanting to go to bed. hmmm that sounds familiar.... lol, oh yes just like my kids ;)

He went right to his crate an hour ago when he was tired. I'm hoping that its a sign for the future.

Tomorrow we are going to work more on getting used to the leash, and I'll introduce him to his jacket. Both boys want me to come to pick them up early so that we can introduce him to their classes. When I picked them up from school today both classes had a million questions, I didn't have time to answer them, I hope to have time tomorrow depending on how long my exam takes at my school.

I'm looking forward to this journey the boys and I are embarking on again.

guide dogs, wilber
