One craaaaazy student teacher--but only for 12 more days!

Q: What do a Cookie Monster slipper, Harry Potter glasses, an oversized acorn candle, a brass rose, an ice cube tray in the shape of stars, a Beatles lunchbox, and a potato masher have in common?
A: They're all going to be part of my vocab activity for tomorrow.

I'm totally taking a page out of Denise's book and having them write a paragraph about my random objects telling me a crazy story about what happened to it. Who owns it? Why? And then I'll read them, pick the top three or so, and the class will vote on a winner.
Ok, so vocab pretty much sucks no matter which way you cut it. And yet I have to do it with every single one of my classes. We get random lists of barely connected words and just have to teach them as a list of barely connected words. It sucks. But who can deny the interest of a giant vanilla-scented acorn? (Give me some credit...I'm trying here. It's this or writing sentences. They both suck, but at least this lets them have a few giggles while they're writing.)

I'll post more later. Possible topics may include:
* More on why my humanities kids drive me crazy
* Yummy ice cream madness with Matt and dinner-dessert dates with Denise (love the alliteration!)
* How it's getting annoying that I never seem to get the teacher-memos because I'm not really a teacher
* In-service on Friday and how I'd rather be teaching
* The incompetence of West Chester, their practicums, and our career center visit
* The obligatory freak-out over jobs and apartments in Pittsburgh

Oh, yeah, and more details and gushing will follow about CTY this year, where some really cool little buffle-ing squirrel is going to be an instructor for three weeks this summer!! I'm sooo nervous. Excited, but really nervous. This is for real. I will not only have my own class, my own syllabus, my own kids, but I will also have my own TA! An assistant--to me?! I'll be down in Chestertown, MD (Washington College) for three weeks teaching "Heroes and Villains," then back to Moravian to TA for the same course. That should be interesting, but I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and being in a place I know so well. And maybe visiting Chris's family, too. But first I have to survive session one! Gah! Am I really ready for this? Stay tuned to find out!!
