And I don’t even have to change out of my pajamas.

When I was younger (and yet not swimming in debt from higher education) I went to a lot of entertainment shows; music concerts, plays, comedy shows, ice skating tours, the ballet, and of course sports events.

Lately I’ve noticed that many of these things are pricing themselves right out of my acceptable range. It all started with Lady Gaga. My sister really liked her and was planning on getting tickets to her concert. I found out I was eligible for a presale though one of my credit cards and was online ready to buy them and surprise her before they even went on sale to the public when BAM! I look at the price per ticket. After “convenience fees” and such they were nearly $200 each. EACH!

So I called up sis to see how bad she really wanted these tickets. She was more appalled than I was and we decided Lady Gaga could shove her show where the sun don’t shine.

The local theater company is doing “Hairspray” for a few weeks this summer starring Drew Lachey as Corny Collins! Well, he’s no Nick Lachey but it sounds like fun so I go to buy tickets and BAM! $100 each. Seriously? I paid $100 each to see “Rent” on Broadway. I’m certainly not paying the same to see a local production in Pittsburgh.

Yesterday I find out that the “So You Think You Can Dance” tour is coming through town this year. Great! And its on a Friday so I can take my friend’s two girls they will love it. Oh and my other friend’s daughter would too. I’ll get us all tickets and it can be a girl’s night out. I look up the ticket prices and while not exactly a BAM! $52.50 before fees at six tickets needed is not happening. There aren’t even any real stars in the show, just the same people I can see for free on the television.

Today’s Ticketmaster email brings me the news that Chelsea Handler is coming to town. Apparently I am slow in the brain because I actually thought these tickets might be reasonable. Nope. $55 each. Really? For her? I’ll pass.

Am I being unreasonable or are these ticket prices really insane? I know I am a bit more frugal than I used to be. I won’t even go to the movies now except during the day when it is cheaper. I haven’t paid to go to a Penguin game in years, but since their tickets topped $100 each, it’s just not an option.

If I wasn’t boycotting them, I could always go to a Pirate game. They practically give those tickets away for free. But then in that instance, I guess you get what you pay for.
