Cool news today.
In the middle of class today I got a voicemail from my aunt telling me to check my voicemail at home. It had some news from Espial. Most of you don't know this but I've been pursuing a co-op job for this summer and Espial is the most promising candidate. They're a 7 minute walk from my apartment, my aunt works there (who got me the interview) and I'll be programming. They do "IPTV" interfaces, which is the software that runs on digital set top boxes for cable tv. The best example is found in hotels, remember the "OnDemand" service there? They programmed it, and its used in almost every hotel in north america. Pretty neat. It's a great opportunity because it allows me to design software with very specific needs and around varying specifications of machinery. Very similar to game programming in a sense as well, and have all of the basic components so at least I'll get some practical experience as well.
So about that message, it was their HR lady giving me a call to tell me they had a job offer! :D And they left the message the day before but since I never check messages didn't know about.. Anyways, the job pays pretty well too, and the best part is that I don't have a set start time! They recommend 9-5 work days but as long as you put your time in for each day they don't care! Job starts May 7 and runs till Aug 30. My contract could extend to the next school year too if I can squeeze it in, they seemed like they really wanted me :P On an odd note I even had to sign an NDA waiver o_O I guess it makes sense though because there are a lot of really sensitive company secrets I will be exposed to but we don't talk about that...
So this means that I won't be home for the summer, and I'm starting to think of Ottawa as more of a permanent residence now =/ I challenge you all to find the time to drop by once, twice or more during the summer months! I'm down anytime you guys are.
