Way too long since last post. I still read LJ just about everyday - I just have nothing interesting to say, or perhaps just too many other places to share little tidbits of my life.
Anyways, on Tuesday, I developed a bout of food poison, and on the second successful heave, somehow managed to throw out my back while hugging the toilet bowl. I suppose it was pretty much "the straw that broke the camel's back" as I've been battle a lower back pain on and off for a couple of months now. As much as I loathe nausea and vomiting, not being able to move was terrifying. I've been struggling on and off with my ADLs (medical speak for "activities of daily living") since and I've called in sick for two shifts now. Hopefully, I can manage really shore up my back before attempting my night shift this Sunday. Boy, do we take our health (and youth) for granted...
So being house-bound/bed-bound the last couple of days lead me to reading "Fifty Shades"... something that I had avoided and put off because of the weak first two chapters (free preview on iBooks), but now I've devoured all of them and I'm left, feeling "meh". Yes, there are some themes that it shares with "Twilight" ("Fifty Shades of Grey" was originally an alternative universe fanfiction of "Twilight"), but overall, they aren't similar. The sex is very plentiful, but average - the writing is very weak at points (especially in the first novel), the topics are touchy (pun intended) and dark, but there's also some humour and light in it. And once you get past the first 75% of book 1, it's hard to put down because the character development and plot are enough to propel readers along. I didn't mean to turn this into a review of what I've been reading (that's what goodreads.com is for), but there it is.
Poor LJ... too many social networking sites. :(
