There are some people for whom, when you have their attention, it's as though you're the only other person in the room, or maybe the world. A friend of mine described the as a "blissful ... burning honesty that YOU'RE FUCKING AWESOME." It's a very powerful, intense interaction, and if you're not braced for it it can be very jarring that it doesn't persist once you're no longer the one in its focus. (And how could it?)
It seems like it would be useful to have terminology for that, in the same way that it is useful to know whether the culture you're dining in expects you to leave your plate clean or to leave a little bit left in order to indicate satisfaction, only more so.
