Soohyun likes to sit in the practice room, sometimes for hours, just staring into the mirrors. He counts out everything he sees wrong on his fingers until he runs out of hands, then he starts listing. Endlessly listing. Starting at the top of the head, past the buggy eyes, the imperfect nose, the weird mouth, the entirely unattractive face, his body which is the only thing anyone envies about him beyond his voice, and yet is never quite good enough. After all, he's been gaining so much weight lately.
Sometimes he likes to stare at Kiseob in the mirrors, when everyone is tired and there is no chance of being caught. He creates another endless list, this time of perfections. Starting at the top of the head, past the perfect eyes, perfect nose, wonderfully goofy smile, the entirely beautiful face- uljjang, uljjang, such a great word, Soohyun thinks.
Every now and then, Kiseob catches Soohyun staring, but doesn't let his hyung know. He can see Soohyun's eyes counting his features and it hurts, because he knows that for every feature Soohyun loves about Kiseob, there is a feature Soohyun hates about himself.
And if Kiseob sat down and thought it out, he could probably construct an endless list of imperfections in Soohyun that he, Kiseob, couldn't live without. Maybe, he thinks, if he counted them out on tiny pieces of paper and laid them on the floor, he could construct a map for Soohyun- to his own perfection.

"Some people are meant to be left behind."
He whispers it to Suhoon through a shoddy cell phone connection, his words distorted so badly that Suhoon almost asks him to say it again. Except he can feel their meaning in the tired way Jisang says them, as if he's deflating. They're a secret between the two of them, these words. Five minutes until we go on, he barely hears Hyunmin shout from the dressing room.
Jisang chuckles. Say hi to Hyunmin for me. Suhoon realizes they haven't gotten together in three weeks.
Even though Suhoon doesn't want him to, Jisang says it again, this time stronger, more confident.
His grip tightens on the cell phone, his own confidence mounting as he takes a shaky breath. "Hyung," he whispers back. "Nothing is necessary."
It makes no sense, but he hears Jisang sigh, relieved. "I guess."

After spending two weeks in careful observation, Jinchul decides that Seunghyun is broken.
"Can I get you another coffee?" he asks, breaking Jinchul's train of thought. A nod, and Seunghyun refills the cup before returning behind the counter. Another customer takes and seat, and he shuffles around to greet them, smiling the entire way. Suddenly, Jinchul decides his coffee tastes disgusting.
Every morning he comes to this little shop, with its shitty coffee, and every day Seunghyun greets him the same way. Smiling eyes and a cheerful voice, he is the reason anyone bothers coming to this place. Men and women alike stop by, chatting with the kind boy behind the great wooden counter, wondering what such a handsome young man is doing working in a small coffee shop no one goes to for the coffee. The lighting is horrible and the tables are dusty despite Seunghyun's attempts to clean them. Among these old, unwanted things, he shines.
Only Jinchul knows why he seems so out of place, because this is not where Seunghyun is supposed to be. Seunghyun is supposed to be on a stage, in front of millions. With a voice that cuts through the silence, clear and so welcoming, he is meant to be known by all. Yet here he is, in a dirty shop wearing a dirty apron, greeting Jinchul as if they've never met morning after morning.
He wants so badly to walk up, take Seunghyun by the arms and shake him until he admits he's lying. Doctor after doctor told Jinchul that such a head injury couldn't possibly cause this kind of total amnesia. They'd called him a liar, send him to a psychologist, put him on medications, but in the end, Seunghyun had walked out- I don't know you. Cold, tired eyes and no smile, Jinchul remembers.
He hates watching Seunghyun like this. It feels wrong, almost creepy, and more than anything, lonely. But Seunghyun is shining, he tells himself, and maybe that's good enough for him.

It's three in the morning when Kiseob is awoken by an annoying beeping sound near his ear. He reaches for his phone without opening his eyes, hand finding it instinctively in its place on his desk. As he flips it open with his mouth, too tired to move his other hand, his eyes don't have to focus for him to know who the text message is from.
kisoebby~ hello from hyung~
He sighs, and presses his reply into the phone with his thumb. Another message comes just as he's about to drift off again, face pressed into his pillow.
ya, i drank a lot~
This time he sits up, defeated by a hyung who likes to have conversations when he's drunk, but not with anyone's he's getting drunk with. He contemplates wobbling over to his computer when his phone beeps again.
kiseobby~ hyung has a secret
He quickly types back a reply and flops over in bed. How many weekends was he going to go without sleep? More beeping. He decides to wait three minutes before checking. As he flips the phone open, a second message causes the device to vibrate in his hand.
ya don't u want 2 kno what it is T.T
--
YA DONT U
His eyes water as he holds back a laugh, replying as slowly as he can.
i dnt care if u dont want 2 kno. i will tell u
A pause, and Kiseob raises a eyebrow. Did he forget to finish the message? Then, more beeping.
KISSSSSSSEOBBY HYUNG LOVES UUUUUUUUU
Kiseob rolls his eyes, but has a difficult time thinking up a response. Thankfully, a new message arrives before he has to.
hyung has another secret 2 tel u
Racing against the clock, he tries to get out some kind of reply, but he's cut off by the beeping and the "new message" alert flashing on his screen.
i might not be drunk.

When Doojoon's away, the BEAST dorm becomes a battlefield. More specifically, every night, just before bed, all five congregate at the base of the bunkbeds to attempt to reach a very important compromise.
"It's closest to me," Yoseob says.
"It's just as close to me as it is to you," Dongwoon argues, rolling his eyes. Yoseob pouts, but the magnae only pouts back.
"Do we really have to have this fight every time Doojoon goes away?" Junhyung groans, Hyunseung stifling a yawn beside him.
"Doojoon said I could use it!" Kikwang suddenly pipes in, lunging at the beds before being pulled back by Dongwoon, who holds him steady in a tight hug. Now Junhyung had three pouting boys on his hands.
"Should we play a game to decide?" Hyunseung offers, the only one besides Junhyung not vying for the coveted prize.
Kikwang shakes his head furiously. "But Yoseob always cheats! Remember last time?" he asks, glancing up at Dongwoon, who nods in agreement. Junhyung goes to the closet, shuffling around for a minute.
"How about we draw names from a hat? We can even use one of Doojoon's." They smile at this, but then Yoseob starts whispering to Hyunseung and Kikwang accuses him of conspiring. Hyunseunf agrees to stay out of the game, but by then the mood is ruined. The hat game obviously won't work.
"Kikwang got it last time, so what if we go in order by age?" Yoseob says, smiling tiredly. "I'm the next oldest, so-"
"Why do you go with the next oldest? I'm the next youngest, so why not go that why?" Dongwoon argues again. Junhyung can feel a migraine coming one as the precious few hours they have to sleep tick by. Desperate, he turns to Hyunseung.
"Hyunseung gets it because he is the only one not arguing," he mutters, already heading to his bed. All three begin to panic, protesting, but Junhyung is already gone. The second his head hits his pillow, the room is filled with his solitary snoring. Then, they turn on Hyunseung. Immediately, he sprints for his bed and feigns sleep, because he's not as gifted as Junhyung at falling asleep upon impact. He drifts off to the sounds of three boys bickering near his feet.
When Junhyung wakes up the next morning, he's disturbed by the quiet. Climbing onto the baseboard of his bunk, he peers into Doojoon's bed, where Yoseob, Dongwoon and Kikwang sleep, curled up.
