So I got this really awesome job as a Refugee Housing Coordinator at a local community service organization.  15 hours a week, $12/hour.  With taxes and such that would have worked out to be around $650 a month.  Pretty freaking sweet for a part-time job while I'm taking classes ( Read more... )

You have to apply to work study in the beginning of the year as part of your financial aid package. It's a strange system because you're basically working for money that you could get for free. If you're eligible to apply for $50,000 in loans and don't do work study, you'll get $50,000. If you're going to do work study, you can only apply for say, $45,000 in loans, then you have to work a certain number of hours a week to get the extra $5,000. So really you're better off NOT doing work study, getting the money for free in a loan, and finding an outside job. However, most of the relevant jobs for degrees are work-study. Because I was working in DC last year and making serious money I didn't qualify, despite the fact I had to deplete my bank account to move out here.

Hopefully I can find any sort of part-time job. Unfortunately all the relevant jobs are work-study or volunteer based, but I need to be getting a paycheck. Found out the Caribou Coffee in Cherry Creek is hiring, so at least it would be some extra cash. We'll see! Thanks for the luck wishing! =)

You guys riding this weekend?

Say what?! That's so ridiculous. So you still can't do work study even if it's not part of your financial package? I just don't understand why they wouldn't take you as an intern. BLARGH! I'm sorry, I really hope it works out, and if you can get that coffee shop job, at least it's money!

YES, and OMG. We're just riding Saturday morning because Kim has been sick, and she has a lesson with Shannon Peters! You HAVE to come. We can ride at 10am and then Kim's lesson is at 1pm so that'll give us plenty of time to tack, ride, untack, clean-up before heading to her place. She trains with Sarah Martin and Shannon Peters when Shannon's not out on the show or clinic circuit. I guess she's friends with Steffan too.

Wow, that would be awesome!! I'll definitely be there. We're going out Friday night for my roommate's birthday, but it will NOT be another 3am night because I am way too old for that and would much rather get some sleep and head to the barn.

Should I get there at 10 or a bit earlier?

Awesome! Please come, we'll have fun, and Jorden has been wanting to finally meet you.

We're so excited-hee. It'll probably be cold, so make sure you dress warmly for riding and then sitting. I'll prob bring like ski pants to go over my breeches after.
We'll probably roll into Jodi's at 9:30 so if you leave Denver by 9 you'll be there at the same time if not 10 minutes before us.

Perfect! I'll leave here at 9 then. And yeah, I'll definitely bring some extra layers for sitting afterward. I'm so excited! See you Saturday! =) Oh, and do I need to bring my Wintec?

Great, see you then! It's going to be fun. Kim emailed me and said something about being at Somerset, which means nothing to me. Lots of times Kim will talk about stuff we've never heard of, so I'm getting clarification. We may be traveling a little, but you can carpool with us if you'd like.

Nope, we gave Jodi a brand new Thornhill Klasse for Xmas that fits Ami really well, and is very comfy, so you can use that from now on. :)

That's right, I forgot! Awesome, no more lugging it around. =P

And yeah I don't mind running around, I'll just keep the day open. Carpooling would be good! Haha.
