but as much as i'd prefer a more logical world, if it were indeed devoid of such emotions, wouldn't life be rather.. well, boring?

i agree, it's the stories and the excitement of the "wtf going on?!" that's making the initial courtship worthwhile. otherwise life is just work and work and boring. but once you commit, all your "dump him" logic holds.
