Being a New Yorker, my opportunities to see Brit comics (and/or QI panelists) in person are few and far between.
Stephen Fry tweeted last week while he was vacationing in NY, but he wasn't doing any public appearances.
Well, thanks to Twitter, I found out that Phill Jupitus was gonna be in NY this week for some performances, including joining an improv group for a free late-night performance.
So, I sacrificed some sleep last night to go watch him do his routine and some improv. He recognized me as he walked in (we "follow" each other on Twitter), and he shook my hand and said "good to see you!".
Then the show began. He was jetlagged and tired . . . but he still rocked!
After the show, I hung around, and got a chance to talk to him a bit.
I mentioned my fandom of QI, and how I've had to rely on the kindness of others for uploads. He's aware of our little group, and of the (need for) "sharing" of videos. He stated that over in the U.K., they do the same thing with "The Colbert Report". :-) He asked if any of the DVDs had been released here, and when I told him no, he mentioned that it's probably due to getting rights for overseas distribution from all the panelists.
He gladly obliged my request to have a picture taken ...
I'm a tired but happy QI fan this morning.
