Title: It doesn't have one xD
Pairing: Past Sakumoto, Aimiya, Jun/Nino/Aiba friendship (Nino and Jun are best friends)
Rating: PG
Summary: Nino solves problem, but there are some he can't anything about.
Disclaimer ?): I don't own Arashi or any other character that appears in this story,
nor am I in any way related to then. This is all fiction.
A/N: I was going to write a rather longish one-shot, but I got to a point where I felt it needed a stop. So then I think 'Okay, I can make it a series and this will be the prologue.' but I've never written a series and it scares me so I stop here and...well, then I don't know. I'll rely on you, do you think that's the end or it needs more??????? I'm hopeless, anyway, enjoy!! :D

Nino has always been the firefighter of the group, always solving everybody’s problems. He was good at it, he knew it, and if his friends needed him he had no problem helping out, as long as his friends remembered a bit of teasing was always part of the deal. But, sometimes, Nino just wants to relax and dedicate his mind and time to his own problems. He doesn’t have that many problems, and they usually don’t need too much thinking about, he’s a simple man, but everyone needs some time for themselves.
That’s the reason he’s in his favourite bakery right now. A cup of coffee and a bagel in front of him, a game in his hand and a book in his bag just in case, but most important of all, his boyfriend within ear-shot. Masaki was working behind the counter today and Nino could hear his hearty lough loud and clear, pretty much like always.
There was just one little problem with this idyllic scenery, though: his ex-boyfriend.
Now, don’t misunderstand here. Their break-up was amiable, hell, their relationship was merely more than friends with benefits. His ex-boyfriend was Jun. They met in school and had been inseparable since then. They made the mistaken assumption that since they were great friends and had great sex they would make great boyfriends. Suffice to say, it did not work out well. But all was better now. They were still great friends and Nino had Aiba. And Aiba loved Jun. Nino sometimes though Aiba loved Jun more than he loved him, but he’d rather not dwell too much on that.
When Jun came into the bakery and approached Nino’s table, but the older boy didn’t lift his gaze.
“Something better be on fire, actually, someone better be on fire, Jun. Today’s my rest day, my office is closed.”
It was meant as a joke, of course if Jun had needed something Nino would have helped in a heart-beat. This was their thing. Nino said something funny and kind of aggressive and Jun would answer with something funny and kind of aggressive of his own, but they would both know of the underlying love they felt for each other. At least that’s how Aiba liked to put it while Nino and Jun rolled their eyes.
However, this time Jun didn’t answer. He didn’t even acknowledge Nino. When Jun sat down in the empty chair next to Nino, he took some time to study his friend. Something looked off, like there was something in Jun’s eyes strange and yet eerily familiar. Nino had seen that beaten up look before, the look Jun had when he was feeling miserable, the one Jun had when…
“Sho…”
Jun lifted his gaze to meet Nino’s eyes. They looked even more pathetic from up front.
“Jun, what happened? What did that bastard do this time?”
That seemed to take Jun out of his daze. No matter how many things had happened, how much crap he had been forced to go through, he would always defend Sakurai Sho.
“He’s not a bastard,” even his voice was off “and he didn’t do anything. I just saw him. He looks good.”
“Oh, Jun! You’re joking! You have to be because if you’re not then I might just have to kill you.”
“What do you want me to say?”
“I want you to say you went up to him and hit him in the nuts like he deserves!” Nino knew he was shouting already, but the glare from Masaki told him he was being much louder than proper.
Jun looked at the counter following Nino’s eyes and waved at Masaki, he smiled but it didn’t really reach his eyes. Masaki waved back, smiled and proceeded to make a complicated string of hand gestures which, Nino guessed, were supposed to mean ‘Wait there, I’ll bring you some coffee and a slice of cake’, but he could be wrong. In any case, Masaki disappeared to the back of the shop and Jun’s eyes went back to Nino.
“I couldn’t go up to him. He was…He wasn’t alone.”
“Which is to say he was with her.” He was actually proud he was able to express so much contempt in a one-syllable word.
“He could’ve been with Ohno.”
“Ohno is cooking…or napping, either way he’s here, has been since this morning.”
Jun just shrugged and went back to looking at the counter. The new guy was taking care of a costumer.
“What’s that guy’s name?” He said pointing at the counter. “The new guy Ohno hired. What’s his name?”
“Unimportant.”
“So…you don’t know.” Jun was smirking which generally meant he was feeling better. It had been two years after all, things can’t hurt us forever.
“I know but he’s not gay and if you freak him out and make him quit Ohno’ll kill you.”
“He looks gay, though.”
I can’t win with this guy. ”Fine, he’s gay. But if you sleep with him and never call him again, like you did the last one, he’ll quit, like the last one. The only difference is this time Ohno will surely kill you. You know what they say, twenty’s the charm.”
“I think it goes ‘Three’s the charm’.”
“Yeah, well, you left three a long time ago.”
Jun laughed like he always does at that and Nino felt a little better, a little lighter. For all the problem he solves there are some he can’t do anything about. Like when Jun’s father died, or when Masaki’s dog was hit by a car. But if he can make Jun laugh like that then it all just might be fine.
Just then Masaki appeared. He had lost some time trying to wake up Ohno but he was back with the promised coffee and cake. He said some stupid thing and Jun laughed again and Nino felt even better.
When Masaki left Jun turned back to Nino again.
“You do know it can’t hurt forever, right? I’ll get over him; you don’t need to worry about me so much.”
“I don’t worry about you.”
“Okay, now we should find someone who’ll believe you. I don’t think we’ll have much luck here, though.”
“Shut up, you idiot.”
Do you know that moment when all it takes is one thought of ‘Everything will be all right’ for everything to go horribly wrong? Nino does because just as he was thinking he really didn’t need to worry about his best friend, in comes Sakurai Sho looking as calm as always and holding hands with her. All it takes is one look at Jun to know everything will not be all right. Will you really ever get over him?
