14 Angry People

Feb 14, 2007 12:59

So this week of all weeks I get stuck with jury duty. Normally I'm willing, although not eager, to do my civic duty. But there's just too much going on this week. So I show up yesterday, and we sit around from 8 until 2:30. Just when I'm thinking I'm clear they call up a panel, and just my luck I end up stuck on the jury. I explain to the judge that I've got a flight Friday evening but he says the trial will definitely wrap up by Thursday.

I get to work this morning around 7, since I'm not any of you poor fuckers that tried to use PATCO today. I go over to the courthouse at 10 when we're supposed to report and most of the court room staff isn't there. We're also missing two jurors. They finally get things started around 11:30 with replacement court staff. They call up another panel to replace our 2 jurors. And whaddya know, Andrew's there. Of course, with 50+ people to fill two open spots, there's almost no chance that Andrew should even get called. Which means he's the first one called. But Drew doesn't get paid for jury duty since he's a temp, so he goes free.

At this point I'm ready to kill. I can easily see this retarded trial spilling over into next week, which means with President's Day on Monday I'll be stuck here at least until Tuesday, which means I can pretty much kiss the entire West Coast vacation goodbye.

Then the judge saves himself two barrels of 00 to the chest by calling me up, confirming when my flight is, and letting me go.

Projected weather in San Fran for next week: highs in the low 60s. Projected weather for Portland: highs in the 50s. I am hype.
