Camryn Manheim (whom I remember fondly from The Practice)
*nods* She was awesome in that - for the season and a half I watched before I drifted away, anyway, and I'm betting she stayed consistently fabulous thereafter even in the midst of the overemoting and the Lara Flynn Boyle and whatnot.
would have to gain a bit of coolth to play you, though.
Hah. Not so, but thank you kindly all the same. (She put out a great autobiography in the early years of this decade - I recommend reading it, if you're into that sort of thing.)
With politics, for me, it's less a matter of understanding attitudes and motivations than it is being able to keep straight the overwhelming amount of facts one has to grok even to follow most stories. Country names, presidents, companies, shadow cabinets, major private actors, global corporations, significant past events, years and wars and shifting alliances...I get a little more of it now than I used to, but I still don't have enough of a bedrock to really contextualize what I read, so it roams around aimlessly in my head and just distresses and angers me. Not useful.
Well, I don't keep it all straight either. I pick a few people and find out as much as I can, and then another one or two, and see where the connections are. There aren't that many major players, but a lot of minor ones and shadow groups. If I trace out the connections it all falls into place.
See, I think you're underestimating your synthesizing ability - at least from where I stand, you seem to have a remarkably integrated view of this stuff, connections and disconnections alike. It's impressive. It makes my stomach hurt a little.
