In this case, my peeps are the friends (usually younger and less experienced) for whom I serve as a sort of mentor. The 2 I've worked with most closely made up a whopping 40% of the callbacks at McFarlane Toys. And considering they'd seen some 200 people, scoring 40% is pretty damned amazing.
Firefly/Serenity suggest irony and might reward smart people for being smart enough to wonder about the names. FOX fucked both of course, but Joss never gave them a shot in the first place with those names. It's about a MASS audience, and Joss just doesn't get that. Ironic too that you'd use the Chinese words in the Icon. That totally didn't work in the show - it made it impossible to hear what the characters were saying in action of any kind - "Did I just miss dialog?" - and it was ridiculous since there were no Asians anywhere in sight. But that's Joss. Clever Clever.
I was lucky about coming in to Buffy late (I refused to watch it earlier for its BS name and bad film precursor). That way I got over the qualms you had (and HS into the bargain). Yeah, HS blew for so many of us. :)
